This is the link for the show, including available space inventory. http://mtaswapmeet.com/ As of last meeting, vendor space sales were brisk. Steve

    M105 axle replacement

I haven't followed through with my ideas and didn't see any more posts on the topic so I thought I'd bump this thread with a photo I just saw. I thought it was a very creative job of modifying and adding to the stock suspension. To my eye, it looks quite strong if those are good welds. It...

    Looking at a '53 M108 Gasser

Thinking seriously about this truck, I was reminded of my limits. I've decided to confine my own lifting chores to ones that can be handled by this and a chain fall, mounted on my M103. Or my M37 gin pole and Sasgen derrick winch (another 1/2 finished project.) Steve

    Looking at a '53 M108 Gasser

When I posted originally for comments, the auction was open but I didn't mention it because of the rules. I needed a sanity check and I decided 'No' at the last minute. I posted more here after it closed, with the offer to put people in touch for the sake of the truck. I know the owner...

    Looking at a '53 M108 Gasser

Truth is, a lot of these vehicles require a lot more to get them on the road, maintain them, and perhaps spiff them up than they're really worth on the market. I think that's probably more true with MVs than with collector cars, just because everything is so big and heavy and many sit outside...

    Looking at a '53 M108 Gasser

BTW: Would it be OK if I passed along the assessments of tasks and costs above to the seller? I think it might go a ways to getting him more dialed in to what he actually has for pricing purposes. Steve

    Looking at a '53 M108 Gasser

I tend to agree with Clinto for the big job. He and I are close on the numbers I came up with for a major restoration. I was calculating whether I could do it based on limiting the scope, and crawling on and under it alot. I figured on taking a fix-this-and-see-if-the-airpack-holds-up...

    Looking at a '53 M108 Gasser

Well, I've decided I have to pass on her. It's just more than I can take on. If I could do all the work myself, and had a place to do it with the weather closing in, I wouldn't give it a second thought. I'd love to see it restored. I think the body and frame are in great condition - better...

    Looking at a '53 M108 Gasser

A couple will be forthcoming. For the moment, just picture one that's county-DPW garbage can green with pinstripes. Really. Steve

Thanks. That's what I thought. I'm considering buying it. There isn't much by way of comparables on the market at the moment to judge a fair price. Steve

    Looking at a '53 M108 Gasser

I spent most of yesterday going over an M108 locally. It's in remarkably good shape, though I couldn't check either the winch or crane (no hydraulic fluid, but no visible leaks.) It hasn't been on the road since 2007 and was recently purchased a few months ago from auction by the county that...

Addendum: I think that the truck was just as upset as I was that I didn't take her to chase the Bergen train yesterday. Well, today was probably the last great Deuce-ride day of 2015, so . . . GoogleMaps sez we barked, whistled, snorted and smoked our way 90 miles going over the river and...

    Toys For Tots 2015 Events

The www.ToysForTotsNJ.com runs began last week in Morris County and continued with Bergen County yesterday. It continues today in NY state with the Warwick run. it's a huge effort with are a number of sponsors including MTA. I hear that our take for yesterday was 14,000 plus, or put another...

C.A.R.C paint and a wire wheel

Also not a bad idea to wear a set of clothes for the job then take them off and wash separately. If you're working in the driveway, hose off the debris in the direction of the neighbor who gives you trouble about parking your truck. Steve

    welder choice...

I realize that I actually hijacked this thread with my early learning experiences of the processes when I really meant to try to contribute what I learned in selecting a machine. It was quite an education and the choices were tough. Steve

    welder choice...

Tips I got from the YouTube class videos: Make sure you can see detail through the helmet without getting flashed. It doesn't matter what the process is, there are certain things to look for in the finished piece. With the OA torch running practice beads, I picked up to use thin metal...
