DIY gin pole and Alaskan sawmill from oilfield scrap

I looked at plywood or various structurally insulated panels and am leaning away from them due to longevity issues with plywood and cost for the SIP panels. I'm looking at building it all out of aluminum square tube and sheet with a combination of flat and spray insulation and phenolic spacers...

DIY gin pole and Alaskan sawmill from oilfield scrap

Thanks! The wood is going to be used for the inside of the RV build I'm doing on the back of the M36. Initially I was going to use a shelter that drops in the bed, but now looking at doing a pivoting sub-frame and custom building the container with expanding sides and roof. Mockups are...

DIY gin pole and Alaskan sawmill from oilfield scrap

Thanks! I'll take some more when I go grab a giant Sycamore that's in the river. This was a quick weekend trip with very little help, so wasn't much time for picture taking. I think I do have a few more of the build though.

DIY gin pole and Alaskan sawmill from oilfield scrap

After spending nearly all day and only getting a couple slabs cut, the idea of the Alaskan mill went out the window, and we loaded it all up for a local sawmill to finish. I really wanted the stump, but knew I had zero way to get it pulled onto a trailer due to its enormous weight. So taking...

DIY gin pole and Alaskan sawmill from oilfield scrap

Backstory: I've been working on removing a 100+ year old Oak tree that fell from a friends land about 3 hours from where I live. Access pretty much requires 4WD and good clearance, and you can forget running to the store for anything you might have forgotten. To that end I've been building...

MEP-831A Governor Controller Voltages. TM Typo?

I read a voltage of 0.0781 at no load. What Dewie38 says make sense as these are variable speed engines.

MEP-831A Governor Controller Voltages. TM Typo?

Double check that the molex connectors are fully seated into the governor. Mine appeared to be plugged in, but pulled out easily. I got it to snap in place and no more issues with the 831A. I'll check my voltages between those terminals this evening and let you know what I read.

    KE5AFU's M36A2 Camper/RV Build

Removed the container in preparation for going to get the tree next weekend. Spent some time clearing cedar trees from a friends property over the weekend. Video in link https://www.dropbox.com/s/52e0ptk386uiszr/Tree%20Clearing.mp4?dl=0

    KE5AFU's M36A2 Camper/RV Build

Got the front shocks upgraded today, the old ones were shot. I went with the Monroe 34787, but had some issues with the bushings being too thick to start the nut. I put them in a lathe and shaved them down until they fit. (About .100 removed) It was a tad harrowing to have that much weight...

    KE5AFU's M36A2 Camper/RV Build

Picked up 550 gallons of brand new sunflower oil today that was being given away for free. I've read on here that the exhaust smells much different when burning it, will be interesting to see how she runs. The stuff looks perfect, but I'm going to run it through a filter and water separator just...

    KE5AFU's M36A2 Camper/RV Build

Well I went out this weekend to a friends land to find a tree. The plan is to create a live edge counter with cabinets that follow the contours of the live edge counter. The requirements are: must be a hardwood, must be at least 24" in diameter, can't be rotten or hollowed out, and it must...

    Hub flip question

I flipped my hubs last week, but noticed that one of the tires wasn't sitting flush with the hub, further inspection revealed that the one hub has a spacer that was not allowing the adapter plate to slide all the way flush. It appears these "spacer" plates are supposed to be on the rear instead...

    KE5AFU's M36A2 Camper/RV Build

R.O. Unit came from auction site, was billed as not working so no one bid on it. Turns out the GFI had been tripped... I saw some decent looking units with UV on a popular auction side about $200. Looked like under the counter coupled with charcoal and UV.

    KE5AFU's M36A2 Camper/RV Build

I finally had a weekend where I wasn't on the road and was able to get the new wheels and tires installed. Surprisingly the seals and bearings were in good shape, so nothing was replaced yet. I'll wait until I do the lockers to replace them.

24 bolt Aluminum MRAP wheel valve stem

I've searched online and on this forum for a couple hours now, finally giving up. I have a broken valve stem on a 24 bolt aluminum MRAP wheel, it appears to take a 1/4" NPT, but now I'm wondering if it's a metric thread. I found a 1/4" NPT to Schrader valve, but it doesn't want to thread into...
