Hi Warren - Love the pics of your refurbished instrument panel, but where did you get the blue lense for the high beam indicator. I sure would love one for my Duece. Also, do you know where I can get some IP panel light assemblies, such as the high beam or front axle shift light? I'd like to add...
OK, what's the secret for tightening the Deuce Park Brake cable adjusting nut? I'm talking about tightening the nut at the apply lever on the park brake assembly on the transfer case. I've run out of adjustment by cranking the handle on the in-cab park brake handle.
I've crawled under the truck...
This thread seems to be directed toward converting a Deuce to a tractor configuration. While I'd love to tow a semitrailer behind my Deuce, the thought of chopping it up and buying all those fifth wheel parts and so forth would end up costing quite a few bucks, plus I'd lose my cargo truck...
The "Multifuel Filter and Gasket Interchange" technical article http://www.steelsoldiers.com/index.php?module=pagesetter&func=viewpub&tid=3&pid=17
suggests that Baldwin filters are the best fit for Deuce fuel and oil filters. The author of the article, Bomar76, mentioned he get his filters...
I mentioned in an earlier post that my driver's side outside door handle will not unlatch the door. The inside door handle works fine. I recieved several replies suggesting taking out the latch, lubing it etc, but also stating that usually doesn't work.
I did mention one oddity about the door...
Don't know of an "official" seating capacity for the rear, but at an average of 24" seating space per passenger and a 12' bed, that would figure out to 6 passengers per side, 12 passengers total.
It doesn't hurt to put a little more grease (a couple of fingers full) in the hub while assembling - just make sure it is not someplace where it will prevent the bearings and washers from completely seating while tightening down the bearing nut. This will cause a loose bearing once you get...
Hot Rod Deuce - How about some info & pics on the injector tester you fabbed up? I'd really be interested in one myself. When you pull the injectors, do you replace the sealing washers or reuse the old ones?
I hand pack my bearings also. I put a big glob of GAA on the palm of one hand, then push the narrow edge of the bearing/race/cage assembly through the glob of grease tightly to my palm. Then I slide the bearing through the grease across my palm using lots of pressure as though I was trying to...
For all of you who may be wondering who made the tires on your Deuce or other vehicle, here is a link to a site with a fairly complete listing of tire manufacturer codes (information courtesy of Carbell Garbee):

If you are wondering WHEN your tires were made...
Good question. School busses don't require seat belts for the passengers; I haven't ridden in a commercial bus for about 20 years but they didn't have passenger seat belts then and I doubt they do now. Don't know about troop seats though, as the riders are facing sideways as opposed to forward...
Chuck - Just kidding about you filling out the TR-54 for me, once I find the frame VIN I'll get someone from the local SD to do it, they are pretty laid back out here. As for the plate, I'm bidding on a new, unissued matched set on Ebay in the NNNN-AA format but they do not have the "Great Lakes...
Thanks all. I'll try to find the VIN on the frame, assuming it matches I'll get out my steel stamps and stamp "70" in the model year block and solve that problem FOREVER!
I'm aware that the "39" indicates w/w, but my truck was rebuilt at Toole in '89, maybe for some reason they took the winch...
GREAT - I've been using the 209 series manuals, but found that the 361 series are much better, contain more and better info than the 209 series! Thanks, Lee
I recently accessed the LOGSA website and tried to download a copy of TM 9-2320-316-10, the Operator's manual for the 2-1/2 ton 6x6 series trucks. Hoverever, the site would NOT let me access this manual without a login ID.
I have been able to download the remainder of the 316 series manuals...
Thanks, Rick. That is the closest to an answer I've gotton so far. I haven't been able to locate the frame number yet, the truck was rustproofed in '89 and the top of the frame is pretty well gooped over. Guess I'll get out the old putty knife and start scraping.
My data plate VIN is...
OK, same question that has been asked many times before. I have a Kaiser Jeep M35A2, the data plate has a VIN but no model year. Went to the local Secretary of State Office (DMV for Michigan) and asked how I get it registered. They were less than enthusiastic about helping me, said when I apply...
I see a lot of diesel fuel conditioners out there - Power Service, Lucas, etc. When I drove my Deuce 250 miles home from Selfridge ANG Base in Michigan, I added a quart of Power Service Fuel Conditioner and Injector Cleaner to the fuel, figuring it can't hurt and might help. The next tankful I...
Dr. Foster - I wanted to try your idea but my wife put her foot down. Mind if I use your dishwasher? I think mine might be just a tad too small anyhow! -- Lee
