I'm looking for a new oil pressure gauge for my M35A3 and came across Federal Military Parts. I've never heard of them before and they advertise as a HMMWV parts and accessories vendor. Does anyone here have experience with them?
I'm trying to figure out if my oil pressure gauge is shot.
The last drive during cooldown the gauge was reading under what idle pressure should be. Prior to that the gauge was reading properly with the truck parked and driving. I thought the truck was idling lower than usual, which could've...
I installed the new sensor today. I managed to start it in the threaded flywheel housing hole from the engine bay, running my arm underneath the steering shaft and squeezing my hand around a ground strap to get to the spot. After I got a good bite in the hole, I went into the cab and finished...
Isn't the M35 transmission syncronized? Granted the syncros on @Redleg130 's truck may be worn to near uselessness.
I've never driven a manual M35 - my A3 has a 4-speed automatic :p
I'd never put a vehicle in neutral to come to a stop, regardless in size. It's definitely a control issue.
That said, with all the manual transmissions I've worked (from a 1999 Jeep Wrangler to a 1942 Autocar halftrack), I've found that downshifting by one gear or to the middle gear works the...
My wife gives me almost the same argument every time I tell her I want a wrecker :p
I had the opportunity to acquire a gasser 5-ton tractor-wrecker that had the same paint thing going on - yellow underneath camo. The Air Force used those trucks for wrecked aircraft recovery.
From what I could tell the speed sensor was never replaced before. I'm pretty sure it came from the factory like that.
There's no maintenance interval for the sensor itself - just replace it when it's not working. I'm surprised as well that it worked for as long as it did! It makes me wish I...
3 years later the tach finally quit working. I decided to tackle it now since I think I have a low-idle problem to troubleshoot. Running through the TMs diagnostic instructions, I determined that the tach was okay and the induction sensor was dead. I think I see why it quit working...
It was...
I've never started a multifuel motor - I have an M35A3, which has the stright-diesel Cat 3116. That starts instantaneously for me on days where it's 55+ outside!
The multifuel TM says to not crank for more than 10 seconds:
Based on that I'd say if it takes more than that to start the truck...
I know this is an old thread, but I've been looking up stuff about axle seals and wet bearings and couldn't let this question go unanswered. If there's oil in the hub, it will get into the CTIS components and gunk things up. That leads to wheel valves not functioning correctly. If a wheel...
Nice to see you got the swap done!
I find it interesting that the Army had TM instructions for such a swap. I bet they anticipated a 1545 shortage considering how few of the trucks were built compared to other trucks, and knew that no more were being built since the 1545 seemed to be a custom...
Big Mike's sells them for $2.50 USD each: https://www.bigmikesmotorpool.com/products/right-hand-lug-nut-for-front-wheel-or-single-wheel-m35-m54-m809-m939-ms51983-2?_pos=1&_sid=f55365e8d&_ss=r
They'll ship to Canada, too.
I learned something about using the hollow stud as a clue about gear oil in the bearings. I have my CTIS wheel valves removed for now and have brass pipe caps on the hollow studs. Three rear studs dumped a lot of gear oil and grease was washed completely from the outer bearing.
The fourth...
