@Balalala do you have any of the TMs for the truck? I recommend downloading all the PDFs, which I believe are all searchable with CTRL+F. You can find them here if you don't already have them.
The tach sensor might have to be adjusted - mine does the same thing and I haven't messed with anything on the gauge cluster. The tach sensor is a magnetic unit near the flywheel. I think the best way to get to it is to pull the dog house. There's a sensor adjustment procedure in volume 1 of...
I wish my A3 had an MT643 in it, but apparently AM General didn't want to go too crazy with shifting too many driveline components around for the ESP trucks.
Has anyone measured how much oil drains out of the rear drive axle tube when removing the drive flange? I'm trying to figure out how much gear oil to buy for my wheel seal project. I'm thinking it's going to be somewhere between 2 and 3 quarts per wheel but I really have no idea. I was going...
This reminds me of what happened to the MUTTs here, though IIRC the government was actually sued because someone got hurt rolling one over. But wasn't the Canadian Army selling Leopard C2s awhile back? I would've loved to get a couple of those
@seano11 nice score! I wouldn't mind a...
I'm bringing this back to life - I'm going to pull axle shafts soon and wonder what I should use in 2023 as far as Permatex gasket maker goes for the drive flanges:
The black stuff (#75190) has maximum oil resistance. If the drive flange is supposed to help keep gear oil from escaping, I'd...
I'll add my feedback to this ancient thread - my brake pedal is also firm. The shop I've taken it to get it inspected for the past two years has a guy there who had a bobbed A2 - he thought an air pack on the truck needed to be replaced because of the firm brake pedal. I guess he's wrong - the...
Are you able to make one? I'm a little surprised a surplus dealer in the US doesn't have one. What about one off one of the Kia 5-tons, if they have them?
My wife actually approves of me getting one of these Batmobiles, especially if it means it would help me fix stuff :ROFLMAO: . Now I just need to find one!
Nice trailer find, even has the big machine tools! Now if I only had a truck to pull it...
The ATF in the transmission pribably helps with longevity, especially if you're carrying and towing a total of 11000 lbs without any developing problems. The Allison manual says the transmission can take at most about 26000 lbs, so you're about there! The M36A3 would be overloading the...
A few things based on my experience with the truck:
The CTIS is entirely optional. @rtk and myself have removed the wheel valves, which cuts that maintenance item out of the equation. It really depends on whether the owner really wants that for what they're doing with the truck.
What I...
That looks like a runflat insert to me. I think they can double as beadlock inserts too? That's beyond my knowledge.
M35A3 beadlock inserts look like this and weigh about 40 lbs:
Ok, that's a beadlock insert. If you're going to use CTIS, you need beadlock inserts since they keep the bead sealed against the rim at all times. If your M35A3 has its original 14.5R20 tires, it probably still has the original rubber beadlock inserts.
Another nice thing about the inserts is...
Just want to be sure - are you talking about the pipe-shaped beadlock inserts that come with the truck's with CTIS, or the actual big heavy rubber inserts that act like another wheel inside the tire?
Dry cracking is not ideal and it's common on military surplus tires, and some vehicle inspectors may have a fit if they see any tires with cracks in them. While there's a lot of steel cable and rubber in those tires, the sidewalls are only a half-inch thick at the most - something to keep in...
