I believe most people here eventually switch to Dex III. I'm still using 15W-40 since that's what my truck came with at least until I really need to change the oil, at which point I'll probably change it over to Dex III. Other A3 and military Allison automatic owners here who are more familiar...
There should be enough give in the air pipe to spin the elbow off. Going from my tire swap pictures, I installed the elbow after I attached the clamp ring to the rim (it has to be done like that anyway otherwise the clamp ring wouldn't fit around the elbow). The air pipe is fixed to the rim...
When I did the tire replacement on my truck, I found that multiple brass fittings were cracked. I was considering replacing them, but decided to remove them and put a tank valve in the 90 degree elbow off the tire stem since I don't plan on using the CTIS. All of them screw on and off, so if...
You need to post more pics - that looks like a nice truck!
Can you get any leeway with registering as a historical vehicle? Of course that probably depends on how you're going to use the truck too. Perhaps a few of our Canadian members here like @cattlerepairman or @m1010plowboy can chime in.
It's not very obvious in the parts TM because it's referred to as a duct. NSN 4720014140333 part # 55125K131
If it's frayed outside of the engine compartment you can use a flexible rubber/plastic hose, a hose barb, and hose clamps to connect the air steering cylinder to the hose (see my post...
I believe the M35A3 should've come with reverse lights already installed. Mine is #246 of ~5800 trucks built and it has them, and I don't believe it's from an MWO. The TM also points this out as an improvement over the M35A2. If you really don't have them, it's possible yours were removed by...
I agree - definitely a parts truck. It could be a fun project taking the 3116 out of this truck and putting it an M35A2 with a broken motor and coupling that with a ZF transmission like that M35E3C I saw awhile back. Or put it in the dead M54A1 listed in your signature?
As for buying the...
Another benefit to installing an electric hydraulic pump would be if you ever wanted make your truck have a modern dual-circuit power brake system using a GM hydroboost cylinder. I've never tried this myself nor designed anything yet but I'd give it a shot. It makes an older non-air brake...
I've driven a halftrack just fine without power steering 💪 All the things you said are true.
I can see it being a benefit for off-roading, though, and I share my experiences with my trucks pretty much on flat, solid ground at all times. If it were me, I'd consider rigging up a hydraulic power...
Are you securing your wheels with a cage or heavy chains when inflating the tires on the rims after mounting? I'd prefer a cage but I used chains when I did mine.
A couple things that may not be a thing on the A2 trucks, and I don't know that for sure since I've never worked on the multifuel:
1) For priming the motor after a fuel filter replacement, the M35A3 TM says to crank the motor for a certain amount of time (which I can't remember off-hand), let...
Agreed, but will lots of cranking not prime the motor? I know that takes awhile without a priming pump.
Also if there's air getting into the fuel system, I think there are other problems that need attention, like potential fuel leaks.
If the existing IP can draw fuel, I'd consider bypassing or removing the stock electric fuel pump. If the fuel system is tight enough one shouldn't have to worry about using the electric pump to prime it all the time, in my opinion. While I like electric fuel pumps, I also like less failure...
Can the multifuel injection pump prime and draw from the tank on its own with enough cranking? The M35A3 did away with the electric fuel pump and just relies on the injection pump. It just takes 5-10 minutes of on/off cranking to get the motor primed. I'm a fan of electric pumps myself. One...
If you're not going to use the CTIS and have no desire to maintain it, just disconnect the CTIS wheel valve hoses from the tire and put a tank/Schrader valve at the 90 degree fitting off the tire inflation pipe. I removed the valves and counterweights when I put 395s on my truck. You may not...
