Interesting idea with the tires. I've read about tires alone making a difference in fuel efficiency with daily drivers. It makes me wonder what the fuel efficiency comparison is between running ten NDTs compared to running ten OTR truck tires, or even Michelin XZLs of the same size...
That...
I ended up shipping my van via @unitedstatesoffreight ! Nick arranged a pickup for my van on a back-haul to my area of NY state at a fair price. An owner-operator handled the shipment and unloaded it in my driveway - even helped me swap the van's dead battery for a new one I bought that...
That sounds a little worse than my rims were. My pits were probably 1/32" at the most. I think the tightness of the rims with the squish of the sealing rubber compensated for what my rattle cans couldn't make up for. I'm not sure what others have done here except may apply additional coats of...
I flashed a build of Tiny Machines firmware onto my Ender 5 Plus and start my prints from the printer. I use Octoprint to monitor the print job and allow me to cancel from in the house in case I catch the print going very wrong over the camera. My favorite Octoprint plug-in I use right now is...
If you end up getting a Creality printer, be prepared to install aftermarket firmware for the best experience. For some reason Creality severely handicapped their own firmware, which is their own fork of Marlin. Creality has repeatedly failed to take advantage of the useful features offered by...
Were these all metal or were plastic ones ever made? I could probably 3D print a plate out of ABS or ASA and make numbers for them, or get stick-on numbers from the local hardware store.
Otherwise I don't think it would make much a difference in material if someone was just looking at it...
I was checking temperatures on my differentials on my truck out of curiosity today. With about 41 MPH worth of RPM on the drivetrain (going about 45 in actuality due to the 395s) in 80 degree weather:
Rear Pumpkins: 115-120 degrees Fahrenheit
Rear Top of differential: 120-125 degrees...
I'm more interested in what they didn't call the truck. I know my wife has a few nicknames for it :ROFLMAO:
When I talk to people about it it's great seeing their reaction when I tell them that it's "the baby of the military cargo trucks" rofl
And no one realizes how true that is until you put...
To mount and dismount my wheels i started with a big pry bar to get them off the hub. By the time I was done, though, I didn't need the pry bar anymore. Instead I made fine adjustments with the bottle jack and wiggled and scooched the wheel onto the hub. It may take some getting up and down to...
I just bought a GMC Savana 3500 extended frame passenger van. It's located at a yard in Delta, OH and has the following dimensions:
Transport Dimensions: 238" L x 96" W x 80" H
Shipping Weight: 7000 lbs
It needs to be transported to a residential address about a half-hour south of Rochester...
I'll have to remember that. I've always parked stuff with manual transmissions in gear, even my dad's WW2 and Korean-era gassers. But diesel doesn't need an on switch to work unless there's an electric fuel shut-off solenoid valve.
I'm sticking with zipper boots so that when this does happen I don't have to take the front end apart at shorter intervals than actually needed :)
In the mean time make sure those knuckles are greased. My boots are torn too and I can at least see they're well-greased :D
I actually didn't realize the M35A2 trucks didn't have those handles! Although the steel hood is kinda heavy it's really easy to lift by standing on the fender and grabbing the side handle to pick up.
I'll try to get pictures later today since I don't actually have any pictures of the top of my truck's hood! Usually any time I'm up there the hood's up, and I can't usually see the top of the hood unless I'm driving since my truck's hood is a few inches higher than the top of my head :p What...
Spring update! I just got the truck out of hibernation and checked the tire pressure. All but two tires held air. Over five months, one lost 7 psi, and another lost 15 psi. They were all originally aired up to 45. So I have two tires losing 0.05-0.1 psi per day. I don't think that's...
That's cool! At first I thought it looked like a wheeled version of the M548, but then I saw this thread where a member here had a running gasser example:

I brought my truck out of hibernation today. While checking the engine compartment fluids, I paid special attention to the underside of my truck's hood. Through an oddly-placed hole in the insulation, it looks like it had some black coating applied before the insulation was installed. As the...
