Life issues have gotten in the way the last week but I'm back at it part time now.
I'm trying to get the front section of the frame cleaned up for painting and part of that has included cleaning up the front axle. Here's a couple of pics of the left front. Who knew there was an actual shape...
A lower number was the problem to begin with. We had a lot of people sign up and post "junk" in threads to get to 5 so they could have access to the classifieds and after they got their ad up they disappeared.
The classifieds are for the benefit of the site "users" i.e. folks who intend to...
One of the things I've been doing while working on my M37 frame is scraping the accumulated road tar off the undercarriage. I've found a small propane torch works great for loosening it (and undercoating) and softening it enough to use a putty knife to remove it.
The only time I've used POR...
Not sure on the piston size but:
Old pump: 14.6 scfm@40 psi and 11.1 scfm@90 psi
New pump: 11.1 scfm@40 psi and 10 scfm@90 psi
Motor stays the same at 6 hp
But man is this new pump quiet. Oh, and it's working great!
Keith_J made some amazing progress on the compressor yesterday. He engineered and fabbed the mount for the pump and a sliding mount for the motor (so we can tension the belt - old compressor was direct drive). The only thing left today is to get the correct belt length, wire the motor up, plumb...
This might give you an idea of the catastrophic failure of my 15 year old DeVibliss compressor. Both connecting rods broke and it ate most of one piston head and part of the other.
The motor is still fine and Keith_J is going to give it a shot reconfiguring it from a direct drive on the old...
But the bores aren't the same size.
My question would be why the M37 wheel cylinders have different piston sizes while the M35 are the same? If you just get all right hand side 37 wc then the larger piston will be in the front on one side and in the rear on the other. That's going to give you...
Well work grinds to a halt. I was blasting some small items this morning and my air compressor croaked. I've had it about 15 years (Home Depot bargain 6hp/60gal) but never put it through the paces like I have over the last month or so working on the M37.
I'm hoping it's just the motor and I...
It's the wife's truck and I know, if she could, she'd be driving it every day. Work requirements and the fact that we're 20 miles from town (which she'd be hard pressed to be patient enough to drive at 45mph) will keep it in the shop except on weekends.
New wheel cylinders arrived Friday. Since we're going to have to pull them all again I figure might as well replace the hard lines while we're at it. The truck is pretty well taken apart at the moment so everything is easily accessed.

Sorry, different thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/m37/71788-m37-brake-wheel-cylinders.html
I already replaced the MC with an original style NOS master. This truck will be doing parades and shows only with VERY little road time so I'm not too concerned with stopping from it's max speed of...
The griddle is the best part of the MKT. So much so that I bought a 2nd one for mine. I'd say unless someone was just buying it for the deck and trailer part you'll pretty much ruin it by parting it out that way. Might as well sell it to an aluminum scrapper.
Work continues on the vehicle for the love of my life (although I may have to let my wife drive it occasionally also).
The majority of the paint has been removed and the next phase will be some serious metal work, then a little body work, some wiring attention, then primer and paint.
One of...
