    Welcome to SS from a former north ID boy. TexAndy just bought one the other day from a GSA auction. I think I'd trust GL a little more just because I've had good luck with them (your mileage may vary). East Coast would probably be easier and closer than south TX though.

    The only really hard part about a 1009 a/c system is how to mount the compressor. If you get that figured out then a Vintage Air Blazer unit should work. You might even take it to their factory in San Antonio and see if they could figure the compressor set up too.

    I'm pretty sure $2850 + $285 GL = $3135. Again, considering what was missing on it, I think that was above what most have been going for lately. I've got a title and a battery equalizer in mine and I would have sold it to them for $4k.

    I think the "convoy" sign is from a state road dept, not military. I'd be concerned why anything was missing from the vehicle since it had less than 10k miles. Makes you wonder what else might be wrong or what else they fiddled with that would be difficult to "unfiddle."
