camber lookin good.
did you see my post about what i found out to be the cause of problem with turning one of my radius rods?
it’s a bit long winded but i had to get my frustration out. still waiting for a new radius rod...
did you get it back together? how is it without shims? was your camber the same on both sides?
ill probably have mine back together tomorrow. as predicted I only had one plate per bucket, no shims as you can see in the photos i just posted. i’m guessing mine is still going to be high but...
once i have my lift installed this will be much easier!
ive never seen a truck(that’s not brand new) with no rust.
the bolts look like they were made yesterday.
frame paint looks perfectly preserved.
just thought i’d post this since it took me some time to figure out.
the problem started when i brought the truck in for alignment,
the “mechanic” was not able to get the adjusting sleeve to tighten. there was no rust on the sleeve/rod. just a bunch of that marine undercoating.
they even used a...
I figure it best to replace both outer and inner since they all look a bit dry, and trying to get the inner one over the outer might be a pain later.
In that link you confirm that Doorman 614-003 is a good fit.
from what I found, that is actually a universal outer boot(which is a good thing...
Thanks for the idea!Did you use a "universal" boot? I read that standard boots are much less elastic and more difficult if not impossible to squeeze over a "CV funnel" as compared to a universal.
Do you know what the small and large diameters of the inner and outer boots should be?
I know I...
what are the current opinions on these two tire models?
wear, UV resistance, grip on ice, mud, pavement, etc..
bfgoodrich baja 37x12.50R16.5LT
goodyear wrangler MT 37x12.50R16.5LT
looks like not all civilian trucks used shims, but many get converted back to shims in the rear.
at least now I know approximately what to expect from shim thickness.
My TM pdf does not let me search, may be because I'm using a MAC?
source of screenshots is...
Nice!
They do look clean.
How was removal of upper swing arm?
The alignment "specialist" at the shop went at mine with great enthusiasm but after partially undoing a few nuts was overwhelmed and gave up. said if they had all day they would tackle it. one of the fears was that they might snap...
Thanks Milcommoguy.
I understand curb weight and Gvrw.
My hope was that there might be some kind of shim chart for approximately how much change to expect from certain thicknesses of shims at factory curb weight.
but I guess trial and error it will be!
Btw, just got back from alignment visit...
does anyone know where in the TMs(or elsewhere) i can find info on shims and specifically how much change in camber the different thicknesses will produce?
ive searched a bit but haven’t found any info on it yet.
only toe adjustment so far
Yup, tie rod ends do look replaced, they don't have that tar coating, I'm hoping your guess is right.
it's an internal struggle, between buying tires and all the other thing that are probably more important like building materials for my workshop/garage/apartment. building it myself(literally)...
two years ago i was in touch with someone that had a bunch of bf bajas only a few years old with 98% tread for about $150 each. about $800 for all four shipped with 24 bolt rims. if he still has them it’s probably a great deal but i still can’t seem to get myself to spend $800 on tires right...
how many miles on your truck?
mine looked very sad on auction photos but in my opinion was the best of the 30 i inspected. even a 2003 that was parked near it. i guess i have to just pull those rear plates out. the camber is pretty extreme.
don’t know what to do with the front. no plates or...
hey dhaumann69166,
if you look at one of the photos in my last response you can see a rear radius rod that is threaded on either end for what looks like rear toe adjustment.
hey Carrera911, do you see just shims or are there also plates behind the buckets?
On my truck there is only one layer, maybe slightly less than an 8th inch thick, i'm guessing shims not plates?
but based on the TM diagram there should be BOTH shims and plates (both called "SPACER,PLATE" in the...
