How to turbo a 6.2 using 6.5 parts

No doubt. I keep mine at a max of 10 psi, but I have an EGT gauge, and at times I have to back off the throttle on a long grades. I'd probably stay at 6 or so if I did not have an EGT gauge.

How to turbo a 6.2 using 6.5 parts

The stock 6.5TD system adds about 60 - 70 HP and about 120 -130 TQ to a stock 6.2. It truly makes it a whole 'nother animal. You can push a little more than safely, but a lot more. 200 - 210 HP and 400 - 420 TQ is typical. The 400 ft lbs is pretty stout in these trucks with no more than they...

How to turbo a 6.2 using 6.5 parts

The complete set-up is the manifolds, turbo, crossover pipe, intake, oil return line, fuel pump plate for oil return, heat sheilds for glowplug wires, and you'll have to make a oil feed line because the 6.5TD line won't fit the 6.2 The 6.5TD fuel pump plate requires the use of an electric fuel...

    My M1009 Restoration Thread

NEW SHOES!!! They are 33 X 12.50 Mudstar Radials. The are actually narrower than my most 12.50's I've had, which is good because it turns lock to lock and still has plenty of clearance. I look everywhere for a old school looking with squared off edge that looked similar to an old GoodYear R/T...

6.2 with turbo build in progress

The 6.2 is 21.5 : 1 from the factory and the 6.5TD's were 21.3 : 1. They are pretty much identical in CR from the factory. The 6.5TD engines had a coated piston crowns, but the CR was pretty much the same. 6.2's will live long, heathly lives if you keep boost at 10 psi or below, water temp below...

6.2 with turbo build in progress

Any of the GM-X series turbos with work. The GM-8 that came on the '97 - 2000 models makes a little more power than the GM-3, but you have to buy or make a mechanical wastegate actuator since it was vacuum controlled by the computer from the factory. The GM-3's came on '93 - '94 models.

P.S - When the camo is repainted, they REALLY look tough! I am going to repaint mine in the next week or two.

    M1009 nc

Welcome to the board!! Camo trucks are the shiite! My wife doesn't get it either. I have a newer Z71 that I never drive because I love my M1009 so much. You got a great deal on that truck. You may also want to clean the check valve on top of the injection pump. If they get clogged it...

6.2 with turbo build in progress

Its a GM-3 from 1993 6.5TD. This engine is pretty mild. Its a low mileage 6.2 with a stud girdle, 1993 6.5TD manifolds and turbo, short body 6.5 marine injectors, SS Diesel Supply 2 1/2" crossover pipe, custom pressure chamber on a 1982 J code dual plane intake.

6.2 with turbo build in progress

Wallew, I also wanted to add to post my below that I would be interested to see the dyno results when you do them on your truck. There is a quite a bit of power that can be unlocked on a NA 6.2 that really makes them run much stronger. I currently have my the timing bumped up about 3 degrees...

6.2 with turbo build in progress

In built a 4" exhaust for my the Humvee take-out 6.2 that I put in my '67 C-30. The factory turndown is designed for a 2 3/4" downpipe, and the inside of it very restrictive. It crimps down, and has a sharp bend inside that creates back pressure. This limits the advantage of a bigger exhaust and...

6.2 with turbo build in progress

Wallew, I'm not trying bring this back up to show you up, so please don't take it that way. I have ran, built, and modified these engines for years. Having lots of experience with these engines, I can tell you with certainty that getting 100HP with just injector tips is impossible, and I will...

    My M1009 Restoration Thread

This is stands today. It looks so much cleaner not seeing the old dirty, brown colr in the wheelwells and axles. The tires should be here tomorrow and I'll get some new pics when I get them put on. I went Friday, and had the color matched from one of my NOS mirrors. It matches great. There's a...

    My M1009 Restoration Thread

I ordered new tires last week, so I decided to go ahead and paint the rims. Since I am replacing the current tires, I took them off, did a quicky masking, and painted them with the tire on. When I had it lifted, I pressure washed the underside, and bought a gallon of alkyd equipment enamel and...

    My M1009 Restoration Thread

The tailgate, the driver's side rocker, and the passenger side fender was the only sheetmetal that wasn't really nice on this one. The tailgate and fender could have been fixed, but I decided to start with nice, straight, rust-free sheet metal instead. I bought a tailgate, and installed a new...

    My M1009 Restoration Thread

I have been driving this truck daily for several months and since my summer side business is about played out for the year, I'm going to freshen it up. Right after I bought it, serviced all fluids, replaced the batteries, replaced mirrors, replaced a faulty blackout light, and got all the dash...

turbo install, but no pyro port?!

The 6.5 didn't come from the factory with a pyro, so there would be no place for one.

How noisy is your 6.2 lit. M1009

Agreed. The 5.9 6BT Cummins and 7.3 and most 6.0 Powerstrokes are louder engines than the 6.2's are. The problem with these trucks is lack of insulation and lack of an overdrive transmission. A turbo does quiet them down considerably because it eliminates the rushing sound of the air entering...
