OK Guys I need to make a Decision... Built Turbo 6.2 or 4Bt swap on M1009

One thing to keep in mind about a 4BT is that they are a horribly vibrating engine. They are good engine no doubt, but they vibrate terribly. I bought one to swap into my '67 C-30, but after driving a CJ-7 Jeep and a '78 Chevy truck with one, I changed my mind and went a turbo'd 6.2L. The power...

    fuel aditive in your tank

I add 2 stroke oil to all my 6.2's. It makes the engines run quieter and seems to idle smoother. I can't tell any difference in power or MPG.

Picking up M1009 from GL... keys?

I bought a key on ebay before I bought mine, and its a good thing I did - because the GL lot had none available. I'd recommend ordering you a key before you go get. There's always some for sale on ebay.

    LMC Truck vs. Classic Parts

For the most part, LMC and Classic Parts (as well as the others) source their parts from the same place. The company that owns The Truck Shop in Orange, CA imports most of the stuff, and is the wholesaler to the others. I was told thjis at swap meet years ago, and I have seen the same stuff, in...

    m1008 diesel to gas conversion

The gearing of a M1008 will yield like 8-9 mpg (at best) and won't like highway speeds much better than the 6.2. The 6.2's get 16 - 18 in the M1008's, and can be easily modded for more power faily cheaply. As far as the starting issues, I would recommend buying a set of AC Delco 60G glowplugs...

    Never seen this before

I think it would really look good if the rear side windows were deleted, but it is a cool concept. That truck is a Alpha Heaven restored truck and is ne of the nicest I've seen.

I Finally Got My M1009 Today!

I'm glad you were about to get the paint off and display the bumper numbers! I also am having tons of fun with mine. I haven't driven my Z71 in weeks, and I recently added a pair of antenna brackets to the existing mounts. I took the top off of mine this past weekend, and its really fun like that!

    M1009 Roadtrip question

Ditto to what everybody else has said. Mine is about 6 weeks removed from the the military, and I have been driving it daily. I have gone on a 300 mile round trip and several 180 mile round trips to Atlanta, and I've had no problems whatsoever.

    Finally went topless!

The weather is finally beginning to cool off a little, and since we had a long weekend, I finally decided to pop the top the M1009. I don't think its ever been off. The paint on the bed rails looked new and you could see the black from the original camo pattern. The kids loved it and wanted to...

M1009 side-by-side paint. Old vs New

The new pattern is too busy for my taste. The old pattern just looks right to me. Here's a freshly painted old pattern truck for comparision. Neither look bad to me though.

    Optimizer 6500 or P400 6.5L eng

They are by far the strongest version of the 6.2/6.5 engines. They are also rated at 250HP and 550TQ out of the box, which is much better than any previous version. I'd love to have one for my M1009 at some point.

    Optimizer 6500 or P400 6.5L eng

There is a guy on thedieselpage that put one in a '93 C3500. He had to have an oil pan made to clear, as the P400 oil pan is too big. The P400 is definitely worth the effort though. The steel crank and integral stud girdle makes it much more durable than a reg 6.5 or even Optimizer.

How to turbo a 6.2 using 6.5 parts

I should add that if anyone beats the piss out turbo'd 6.2 and thinks its going to run like a modern D-Max or Cummins, then yeah, headgaskets, along with crankshafts, pistons and even blocks are all in danger. I do work mine pretty hard, but I don't make a habit of taking off at WOT and holding...

How to turbo a 6.2 using 6.5 parts

I have turbo'd two 6.2's and am about to put a Banks kit on my M1009 making it my third, and I have had no problems. I would recommend investing in a set of gauges and keeping boost 10 psi or less, keep the water temp 220 or lower, and keep the EGT's 1100 degress or lower. I like to stay 1000...
