    Military Vehicle Scrap Yards (Humvee)

May be check with Tuscon iron and metal, they hold a scrap contract also. But I don't know if they sell parts to the public.

    Military Vehicle Scrap Yards (Humvee)

Much of the resale stuff right now is coming out of Southern Metals in Wilmington NC. They have a contract to scrap hmmwvs out and are open to the public. It's where many of the eBay sellers are getting thier parts for resale. They have a Web site, just Google it.

How many digits in a 1990 HMMWV VIN?

The serial number doesn't corilate with anything in state dmv databases like Vin numbers do, so I would argue that it makes the most sense for the state's to assign new numbers that mean something in thier system.

How many digits in a 1990 HMMWV VIN?

The state assigned mine and ignored the serial number all together. What do you mean by scam mobile? If it quacks like a duck...

Overturned HMMWV in NJ, stay safe folks

I really don't understand the negative undertone surrounding hmmwvs and their safety that exists on this forum. My state requires a dot inspection of all previously unregistered vehicles when they are brough into the state. They gave me an extensive lists of mods that had to be done to my old...

Overturned HMMWV in NJ, stay safe folks

As a healthcare provider there are many reasons people die in the hospital, MVA may be what put him in the hospital, but it's a major assumption to say that that is what he died from. Could be post op infection/sepsis, post op blood lot related stroke, pulmonary embolis, or something as simple...

Overturned HMMWV in NJ, stay safe folks

He didn't loose his life in a hmmwv accident, he died in a hospital 7 days later. Unfortunate, but I stand by my original comment. hmmwvs are relatively safe for general use.

Overturned HMMWV in NJ, stay safe folks

With about 300 K mil versions and 10 K civi versions on the road, reports of accidents are pretty rare. Fatal accident reports are non-existent. Relatively speaking they are far safer than motorcycles. There was a roll-over accident in VT last summer which was ruled a result of improper...

    Towing Humvee via tow bar

Yup if choosing between flat tow and trailer, trailer is the way to go.

    Backup lights - comments welcome

Why did you want reverse lights? Only thing mine needed for inspection was a tail plate light.

    Half way there.

The issue was I didn't have anything to winch off of anyway, nothing solid within 200 yards.

    Half way there.

So this weeks marks the half way point for the 4000 hmmwvs approved for sale on the Govplanet contract. I haven't heard of any others getting released as of yet, hopefully some more will come out of service and into public hands. They are selling them faster than I was anticipating, if they keep...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2015 - July VOTE HERE

I don't think there is enough articulation in the two sections. The area between the front wheels and the rear on the tractor section is so close together that it would be vertical before you could ever go over. You would either bend body components or break your articulation joint. I am not...

I know for a fact that I can put the HMMWVs front tires on top of a jersey barrier. I highly doubt the gama goat can do that without damaging stuff...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2015 - July VOTE HERE

Thankfully we have a long history of MVs doing stuff they were not designed to do.... American Ingenuity has saved a lot of American hide over the years in the form of digressing from engineer specifications on vehicles.... Hedge plows come to mind, and 2.5 and 5 ton gun trucks as an example...

Isn't that the same Jeep that got replaced by the HMMWV  Besides that Jeep couldn't pull a 10 inch tree stump without tearing in half.

Well for anybody else who likes to see working trucks: Here is my last project with the HMMWV. My wife wanted this tree gone from her yard, so the HMMWV and I took care of it. Got to love Positive traction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O7eRNIcJrw&feature=youtu.be

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2015 - July VOTE HERE

My HMMWV is bone stock and unmolested/restored. Other than adding the pioneer rack it is in the condition that she arrived out of military service, right down to the camo over tan paint job. It has the stock LT6 batteries, troop seats and the cargo cover which I had off at the time the...
