    M917 tranny questions.... update

Success!!! It can indeed be removed from the passenger side pto plate. Reinstalling however....I think I'm just going to pull the PTO. If you have one of these tranny's and feel like cleaning that screen as you should per the pm I would strongly advise just pulling the PTO on the first place...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Once again ponway you come through with the info. I stuck my arm up in there yesterday, both actually, could feel those rolled edges. Without being able to see and having yanked, tugged, pushed and contorted myself in every possible way i was about ready to throw in the towel, seal it back up...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

YOU ARE A LIFESAVER. Really didn't want to admit defeat and fill it back up without cleaning but the removal looked to be potentially more trouble than its worth. I'll see if i can slide that thing off of there mon or tues. Does it slide forward to remove, back ?? I'll try from the pass side as...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Anyone that has pulled that screen care to tell me what bolt is the one that retains the suction tube? Pulled the top one out, i don't think its that one unless its really stuck in there. Even with the previous link i'm not seeing the retention method clearly. Can't feel any type of retainer...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Interesting, that whole manual and it says nothing at all about cleaning that screen. Does say at one point in the reassembly part about installing the ONE bolt that secures the pick up tube. Looks like the 4 of them together hold the oil pump together. Good thing I decided to do some reading on...

There we go, I knew it had to be on here somewhere. Thank God for SS, keeper of all MV knowledge

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Yeah, so poor maintenance planning it is. Could not find the cat tranny service tm in the tm section. Reaching in the pass side pto hole I can feel the suction tube.... And also the 4 bolts that secure it. Only way to get to the ones on the driver's side appears to be pulling the PTO. Talk about...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Good to know that TM is on here, gonna need several frosty adult beverages and a couple hours of free time to dive into that one. Sure hope i don't have to pull the PTO itself, would be some pretty poor maintenance planning to require PTO removal to clean the screen. Not that getting the PTO...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Yeah, i read up on the oil. Thankfully 5 gallon buckets of rotella 15w40 are still somewhat reasonable on cost and i happen to keep a couple on hand anyway. Even for that it looked thin, not exactly a lab analysis but whatever. I did pull that plate, but just saw gears, guess you gotta reach...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

OK, well its safely at the yard where i work. Was too damn tall for the landoll and had to call in a local lowbed outfit we use a lot. Was still 13 foot 2 inches on the lowbed so keep this in mind if you are thinking of dragging one of these home. On the day of loadout i started it up, let it...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Good to hear that all my reading was not in vain, i did retain something. I guess a deep dive into the TM's will be in order once its gets somewhere safe. Going to be towing it home anyway so it only has to move to get on the trailer. Worst case scenario a short slow drive to somewhere else on...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Entirely possible, very probable they are way out of adjustment. Didn't look at them much except to see that they released. Before it actually moves very much i'll certainly adjust them. They did do something though as it was dragging the engine down pretty good, just not enough to stall it.

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Interesting, was definitely idling less than 1100, more like 500 and yet was pulling like a mofo. I didn't really intend for it to go anywhere with the brakes still on. Just wanted to see if it would drop the rpm a touch to signal it was doing something since it was listed as bad trans. Sounds...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Hey guys, its been a LOOONG time since i have been around.....again. Anyway, my bad influence of a boss clued me into a local auction with some trucks. Had a few 5 tons, a 915 and a trio of 917's. Simply could not pass up a 917 for what these were going for so.....yeah i bought one. Ran down...

M35A1 to sell or not to sell ??

There  I will see what i can do about exhaust measurements (and perhaps a better pic) Need to move the truck for that as where its parked is not really conducive to crawling under it this time of year, too muddy. While i have not been actively seeking a buyer its on the to do list now...

M35A1 to sell or not to sell ??

I'm here....sorta. Will respond to PM's and email but just don't have the time to hang out on here like i used to. The GF is now the WIFE..... and the "plow deuce" didn't plow last year. Fix headgasket VS just hang the plow on the M35A2C = the plow went on the other truck. I think we tallied...

    Rear Mounted Intake??? Why?

Hmm, he has some interesting taste in mods. Looking at those pics i can't see much of a fuel tank hiding under that bed. No toolbox and battery box is just plain odd and will make getting in any out unnessicarily difficult. Not to mention where the heck do you keep your supplies to keep this old...

    Early LDT turbo

Looks EXACTLY like the one on my LDS427, strangely enough i have the same turbo on my LDT465. Good turbos IMO, moves plenty of air, enough turbo sound to let you know its there but not make you deaf like a C will.

    Is this a M36?

Well M16ty i guess that pic of "rangerdaves" truck above settles the overloading dispute, thats a LOT of logs on there. I knew he had a deuce log truck up here but never knew it was a m36 originally. Then again i don't think i have ever maxed out my truck with all the crap i can pile in the bed...
