So my M818 is leaking badly from the PTO assembly
Specifically I believe its the shaft seal
(From TM9-2320-260-34P2) (Figure 448. Transmission Power Takeoff Assembly and Mounting Hardware) (Part #2)
7061272 SEAL,PLAIN ENCASED (Part # 28 from the figure)
I have found this seal several places on...
So I'm trying to get ready for the Ga Rally and decided it was time to pull the winch and figure out why the drag brake wont work (or be adjusted to hold the drum) and the clutch handle goes past the de-tent (de-tent ball and spring fell out)
Like the rest of the truck, the winch was rebuilt...
So I upgraded my NDT's to super single FMTV tires and rims right before the 2010 GA rally on my M818
Never had a moments problem
Fast forward 2012 GA Rally
I "air down" to about 30psi for the trail rides , go play in the mud, get stuck, do some hill climbs, traction is no issue have a blast! (...
So out of my TM 209-2330-392-14P
I need the spec on (2) parts and have searched the internet in vain on the "spec" for these parts. I have the NSN but where do I find out
"it's a pin 6" long and half inch in diameter with a hole at the end for a 1/8" cotter pin"
Or maybe a drawing of it...
Have my appointment at 0800 this morning to pick up my M1102 trailer at Anniston
About a 2 1/2 hour ride
Truck is loaded with a few tools and hopefully everything I need. I'm taking a flat bed 16' civy trailer rather than pulling it back since I didn't do an inspection and don't want any...
Need to move a M818 5th wheel and ramps from Atlanta GA area to Albany NY area
Let me know if you can help, no particular time frame, we are flexible
Thanks!
So after the Georgia Rally I realized I didn't just have split front axle boots I had a leaking front axle seal. After you would drive it you had a fist sized glob of redish tin "grease" under the passenger side of the truck.
So After hours of searching here, I ordered the parts from White Owl...
So of course I have searched here and cant find description of my specific problem
I also have the 20P in front of me as I type
When I got the M1028 The drivers side rear tire locked up a bit but would go away after driving. I attributed it to a rusty drum and not being driven
After driving it...
So while putting new tires and wheels on the M818 this weekend I notice leaking "fluid" on the inside of the hub area
I have searched inner axel seal and everyting I find talks more about gear oil coming out, sulfur smell, (familiar with gear oil smell) but this is red axel grease, not gear oil...
So the tachometer has never worked right on my M818 and I finally pulled the cable end from the IP this weekend to check it out
What I found is the pin on the end of the cable seems to be wrong
its to small and spins freely in the IP
My dad is a deisel mechanic and had a proper pin for...
So I got the new (new to me...) Michelin XML 395/R20's on FMTV rims on this weekend
I'll post pics later and a short write up
Found several issues I need help with and I'll be posting those too!
So this is running up the hill from the shop, after getting her new shoes
enjoy! :driver:
]
So I unloaded my FMTV tires and wheels off the M1028 this afternoon
Heavy, very heavy, but more managable than I had imagined
Michelin XLM 395/85-R20
They are going to look GREAT!
Step 1 is the tires, stay tuned for the other upgrades...
Couple of pics!
So I go to hook up my M101A2 trailer for the first time to my M1028...
ASSUMING... :-( that the connector plugged right in...
Big surprise they are totally different and both male connectors?
After 30 minutes of searching here I'm thinking the trailer looks right but the truck seems wrong?
So...
Just got an e-mail from Durhamtown Plantation talking about new trails
thought I'd pass it along to all the Ga Rally crowd...
"It has been HOT here at Durhamtown but riders are still coming to ride... from all over North America. We have added some new Jeep trails across the river and UTVs...
So I had my (6) Michelin 395/85R20 tires mounted on FMTV rims that I'll be mounting on my M818 shipped to work
Drove the M1028 in today to pick them up
Drove in at 50MPH this morning about 75 Deg, not to bad
95.7 Deg on the thermometer right now
Should be an interesting ride home this...
So I had (have...) the death wobble on my M1028
Ordered a new Moog SSD84 Steering Damper SUPER TRAIL BOSS
$19.99 + Shipping!
Installed in about 15 minutes
Drive at 50MPH no death wobble!
All the parts on the way for kingpin bushings and springs which I hope to do this weekend, but very...
So, I found a deuce bed and I'm ready to remove the 5-th wheel from the M818 (and read the cold rivet thread too...) I'm removing the spare tire and tool box and going with the full 12" deuce bed
Now once I have a clean frame and a deuce bed sitting on it what is the best way to attach it?
I...
Looking for help to get an M66 ring mount from the Fort Smith Arkansas area to Atlanta Georgia area
All or part of the way
Arkansas to Birmingham?
Arkansas to Chattanooga?
Any other great ideas ?
Thanks!
Tim
So enough for the math humor...
So this weekend I went to a family reunion and took my toys for family entertainment
It was the first time I had loaded everything up and hit the road. The M818 towing the M105 trailer and the M274A5 in the trailer. It was a short trip there, about 15...
So I finally hooked the M105 up to the M818 for a short trip on the weekend, about 15 miles. I'll be loading the M274A5 Mule up in the trailer
Anything I need to worry about? Its all 2 lane back country roads.
Does the short (relativity...) M105 pull OK behind the M818? :driver:
