    Hendersond's M38a1C

I just hauled home what I believe is a M38a1C. Mine is the red-ish one with the "roll bar". HndrsonJ got the M38a1. Jim made the deal for us. I spent 12 hours pounding dents, cutting out the bad and welding in some patches. I'm guessing another 12 hour day and the outside of the tub will be...

    M3 or M4 Scare Cannon/Bird Banger

I acquired a bird banger today. I believe it is propane powered. The company that made it is Reed-Joseph and is still in business. Remnants of the sticker are still there. I'll be calling Monday for a regulator or to find the operating psi. Here are the manufacturer's operating instructions...

    M105 Utility trailer build

I decided to build a usable trailer out of an old M105a2. Earlier this year I found a drop axle with electric brakes and leaf springs in a South Dakota salvage yard for $50. The axle has 6 bolt hubs. It is supposedly a #5200 axle according to the Local trailer dealer. I picked up 3 sticks of 3"...

Body panel stands made from 3/4" conduit

I made these stands out of 3/4" conduit. Each piece was left 10' long. The bends started at 36" from the ends. Starting the bend at 36" makes the overall height 42". When you open the stands the working height is actually closer to 32-34" depending on how wide you open them. The pivot is 1/4"...

    1008 Brush Truck

I suppose you guys have seen it all, but here are some pics of the brush truck a built for our FD a while ago. We had an M38a1 and a M715, but both had weak brakes and poor traction. We live in the Driftless area in western Wisconsin so the woodland is very steep. Our fires are mostly early...

Spare parts every GMC owner should have

I figured I should start a thread detailing what we think an owner of a G749 should have stashed in an ammo can for future repairs. These trucks are getting old and parts are getting harder to find. Obviously, a salvage yard full of good trucks and 2 retired mechanics that work for free is the...

GMC M211 muffler and exhaust build

This is a thread dedicated to the G749 series muffler. My goal is to collect data and then produce a decent replica of a factory muffler that can be made with common tools found around the shop. I have one good muffler that Maccus (A great guy) picked up from a great guy in South Dakota. I...

    24v carter fuel pump overhaul - M220

I thought I'd share a few pics of my overhaul of the carter 24v electric fuel pump. The pump just quit working. I picked up a couple kits from the friendly Butch Atkins. I was concerned because it had only the electrical parts. After pulling the pump apart, I see there is nothing else to wear...

    XM211 single axle conversion

Picked up a 1952 XM211 converted to single axle today. A friend took it on a trade last month, so I took it on a trade from him this month. It is no work of art, But it is interesting. Too bad the previous owner did not keep one original axle. The conversion is not bad in practicality. Does not...

My new M220 soon to be camper

This summer I took the family to visit Maccus in Custer SD. He has an awesome 6x6 military 5 ton he converted to a camper. Hardtops and Heaters

Please share pics of your GMC HARDTOPS and HEATERS! An appropriate request from a Wisconsonite as we head into late fall. I have only seen 2 different heaters so far, both this week. Seems to be quite a variety of hardtops. Let us see what is out there. Close ups of corners, curves and seams...

    pumping lake water

I purchased 2 of these fuel transfer pumps from GSA last winter. they fired right up after I hooked up a gas tank. I made a strainer out of 2" PVC pipe. Took them to the lake today. Impressed with what they pump. Unfortunately it sucked my hose flat, but still pumped some water for the pics. I...
