Vaccuum at fuel filter water drain- prove anything?

Hi all, hope basic question- my A2 needed lots of cranking for a cold start yesterday. 1/2 way thru- engine off-I cracked the (military/big) fuel filter water drain. Was sucking air in. Does that prove any trouble? Thought that that might prove suction lines OK. Note that that filter was new...

    15.5r20 michelin tires

Tire use question- I saw an add for 90% Michelin #15.5 R20 tires. Can I use them in front axle with my A2 5 ton with worn to 60% 14.00r20 super single rears? the listed dia is 47" for these and a bit more for new # 14 r20 tires. I don't lock my front axle unless offroad or snow covered roads...

    Super Single tire swapping

Hi all, asking for a basic opinion. I have a "A2" 5 ton with Super Singles. Looking to keep it safe on a budget. Want to put on new fronts (old ones have weather cracks) and swap around the others as needed. Figure a rear flat unlikely to kill anybody until I free up cash for more tires ...

    Air Press Switch

Hi all. Have a 5 ton A2. Just noticed that I have an air leak at the PRIMARY Air tank pressure tank switch, out the "weep hole" by its base. Is this normal?? It was just a fluke that I heard it as my ears are not "new". Does this switch only run the low air alarm? Thanks for the info! FWI.-...

    "NATO' 14.00-20 tires

Hi all, been shopping for some surplus tires for my 5 ton A2. Saw a listing for "Nato: treads." I have 4 Non Directional Michilens and pair Good years now. How do Nato types work? Good for fronts? OK to mix and match if I keep same axle to axle? Thanks!

Dogging in front med duty wench

Hi all . Have 5ton A 2. The med duty fr wench likes a few hits with a rubber mallet to engage. Is that common? If not- what should I lube/ work on? Oil level (right side) OK. Thanks!

    Tamper SCREW or "Fancy Rivet" (silly question of the day?}

Hi all, "new Guy" type question. Have an A2 with the small turbo Cummings. Like to be able to adjust max fuel, and maybe install exhaust pyros some day. Question- are those little "tamper resistant" (bosh) screws, or fancy pop rivets? I ask as one resisted my cut slot and screwdriver and is...

    Stupid Bosch Security Screw…

Hi all, Wanted to add a little bit of fuel to my A2 on a budget. I read up about backing off the rack adjustment screw, and decided to give that a try. The tamper proof screw on the cover to that adjustment screw ruined my day after I mangled it, and the stud got stuck in the pump housing. Can I...

230 mopar head taped , gasket

Hi all. Changing gaskets and noticed my no. 6 cylinder (area on head) was tapped clean thru to combustion chamber and tapped off (top) with a pipe plug. Thought little of it, till checked my "parts head" and noticed same. Was this a tap for compressed air or something? Also- I know modern...

    Staggered Tire sizes possible?

Hi all. Have a 1991 A2 with 1400-20 tires. Understand that they are getting hard to get surplus good as obsolete and 395's generally recommended substitute. I'm asking if 395s on front and 14-20s on rears might be a budget friendly stop gap as a front blowout looks by far to be the most scary...

    Winch Lubrication Level

Hi all, I have a 1991 A2 with a poorly functioning winch. How much lubrication oil should be in the frame side of the winch reservoir? The Lubrication order is unclear of the oil capacity. It looks to me that this oil level should be quite high. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Air Dryer Alternative

Hi all, I have a 1991 A2 with the ABS sisten and all. I have the Haldex N50011F air dryer. It tends to stick open sometimes where the system blows down for the past couple years. I have been playing with it by cleaning and giving it its best shot at working. Are there any practical civilian or...

    sticky winch engage

Hi all . Have a 1991 A2 with a once replaced "Med Duty " front winch. It needs few few medium "bumps' with a heavy rubber mallet to engage or disengage the lever. Jogging unit and or break only helps a bit. How "real world normal" is this, and if bad- is there a basic fix? Thanks- good to have...

    Poor winch performance

Hi all. I have a M925 A2 with a Medium Duty winch. Winch was replaced by Air Force. Yesterday I tried to use it to pull a BADLY mired Chevy Trail Blazer. Could not budge it. Winch did go to pull mode, filter was clean, and plenty of hyd oil. I thought it should yank it out easy as Chevy...

    8.3 Cummins fuel adjustment

Hi all, I understand adjusting the star wheel on the fuel pump is a good way to free up horsepower. I heard there is a star wheel under a plug. If this is correct, how much should I turn it and what should I expect? I’m not looking to drag race my truck, but a bit of free horsepower to climb...
