Are all 200amp HMMWV alternator pulley shafts the same?

I'm probably replacing the 200amp alternator in my '92 m998 with another 200 amp alternator. The new-to-me one comes from a 6.5 Turbo HMWMV, so I think it had a serpentine pulley on it (no pulley right now). Mine has the V-belt pulley. Are the shafts on all of the 200 amp HMMWV alternators the...

Question in the middle of swapping a busted th400/np218 for a working th400/np242

I'm swapping out my busted th400 that had a np218 transfer case on it for a functional th400 that has a np242. I think (we'll find out) I have the right drive shafts, etc., but I have a question I hope you all can help with now that I have both the old and new transmission and transfer case next...

bit of a vent: I love my m998, but what a year for maintenance!

Me and my family love our '92 m998a0. I've owned it for a little more than two years, and have put maybe 3,000 miles on it. The kids adore it, we use it as the family pickup truck, go off road with it, and today joined in a Memorial Day parade with a '42 MB and a '71 M35a2. But holy smokes, what...

    Can I use a Niehoff 400amp regulator on a 200amp alternator?

I think the 200amp regulator on my '92 m998 is shot. Sometimes I get charge, sometimes, I don't, voltage floats around, it cuts in and out, etc. Troubleshooting indicates that alternator is probably OK. I've cleaned up all the wires I can find. Looking at the auction sites and elsewhere, right...

replacing front diff: best way to reset pinion yoke nut?

My front diff had a dental problem: it lost some teeth :-) I've got what is claimed to be brand new 2.56 ratio one, and it looks at least freshly rebuilt. To take out the old one and put in the new I need to remove the pinion nut to take off the yoke in order to pull it through the rear diff...

1992 M998 2.56 front differential losing teeth. Best options?

When I got my truck two years ago, it was delivered without oil in the front diff. I filled it up with oil and drove it until now, changing the oil a couple times at the very beginning, and then each year. There were always shavings on the magnetic plug, but this year, there was a gear tooth on...

Weak power steering with a squealing pump belt, but brakes and winch seem fine

Hi all. I was out today with the HMMWV off road, and when the truck is stopped, the power steering is very weak. When stopped the belt (which is pretty tight) squeals like crazy when trying to turn. The brakes seem just fine, and the hydraulic winch seems fine. Once moving, the steering seems...

    m998a0 self centering steering?

I've never driven a HMMWV or H1 except for mine, so I'm not sure what to expect. My steering does not seem to self center, meaning if I dial in a certain amount of steering input and let go of the wheel, the vehicle keeps turning, rather than the wheels straightening out. Is this common or...

Freeing up the fan clutch without removing it

Yesterday I discovered the fan clutch on my '92 M998 was stuck in the locked position. I disconnected the fan hose from the Cadillac valve, applied 120 psi of air pressure to it, and the fan didn't release. I was able to free it up with the following procedure. This was all done with the engine...

Location for home made fuel sender access hatch?

After some time on my back under the truck ( '92 M998 ) with a multimeter and the TMs, I've come to the conclusion my fuel sender is bad. That's unfortunate, as taking the fuel tank out looks like a small scale nightmare. I've read about the fuel tank access cover kit, and ordered some dzus...

Very low front differential oil level: hoping for the best, preparing for the worst

I got my 1992 M998 a few days ago, and began to go through it. I changed the rear diff oil, and then went to go change the front, but close to nothing came out!! The diff had not made any noise to indicate things were in a bad way, and the magnetic plug had some shavings on it (for that matter...

My M998 finally made it home!

The EUC took a little over 100 days to clear. I gave up on the trucking company after about a month of them not being able to get the HMWMV to me. The trip from NH to outside of Ft. Dix and back took 16 hours in a tow vehicle that didn't have cruise control. But it was all worth it, since my...

Govplanet HMMWV initial bid set to 5000

Hey all, Sort of a PSA, since I was curious when I saw it. I contacted GovPlanet customer service, and they told me that the initial bid on all HMMWVS is going to be 5000, regardless of condition. Hope this helps prevent any confusion!

Post HMMWV influx: aftermarket or OEM canvas parts?

With luck, in about 10 weeks I'll collect my new-to-me HMMWV. I'm so excited! :jumpin: Like many on the forum, I'm a new HMWMV owner, and like many, have some work to do to bring my V back into condition. I've been pleasantly surprised at the availability of hard parts (hubs, glow plugs, seals...
