    Dryer constantly purging

Update: Solved by replacing the dryer. Last year, on my '91 M936A2, the air dryer started purging as soon as I turned on the truck (0psi in tanks). One of the smart people told me to rotate the 3/8" bolt on the purge port (bottom), and it worked. It happened again just now and I tried the same...

Thinking of building the M936 spades

Anyone ever thought or did make their own spades? Officially called "Wrecker Field Chock / Mud Leg", NSN# 2540-00-315-2306 and 3830-00-315-2306 These are hard to come by, and I was thinking perhaps I could even build it so the spade end was removable and the arm could be used as a spreader bar...

Gaskets -- do you make them or source them already made?

For our older vehicles, do you find gaskets still available? I'm rebuilding the front winch and the 2 paper gaskets between the motor housing and wormgear cover need to be replaced. I rather just buy them but if they're not available or cost 80 bucks, I'll make them myself. Any sources for...

Solved: How to decouple pump from front winch on M936A2 wrecker?

I'm trying to remove the front winch on my M936A2. How do I separate the pump from the winch? There are 2 sets of bolts. One from the pump to the coupler and 2nd from the coupler to the winch. I've removed both and I can spin each part but can't separate them. What am I missing? TM...

    Front winch removal and teardown

Did anyone document (or film) the removal and teardown of the front winch on the M925 or M936A2? Mine is stuck and it's leaking. Doesn't look too terribly hard, but don't want to re-invent the wheel if a video about it is out there.

    M936A2 wrecker tranny needed - Can I use MT654 instead of MT654CR

Guys, we believe that the tranny on new to me '91 wrecker is shot. I have a lead on a fresh takeout out of a 250 truck but since I don't know crap about our trucks, I don't know if I can easily mate it to my 8.3 The donor tranny is a non-close-ratio. I read this post but didn't seem to answer...

New to me M936 drive/transmission issues

I think my torque converter is locked up, but since I'm new to HD trucks, I need help to verify I'm on the correct path. Recently purchased a truck that sat for years. It was a runner last time it was used. When shifted into forward gear, the truck stalls. Dropped valve body -- found 1 valve...

    2 ball or 3 ? What's your preference?

So I asked a question a few weeks ago about check balls in the valve body on 1991 M936A2. While taking mine apart, 2 balls fell out. Stupid rookie mistake. I asked about locations and was provided SM for MT654 that clearly showed 3 locations. I didn't think I could have lost one of the balls...

MT654 transmission oil. Change to straight 10W

I dropped the MT654 valve body on my 1991 M936A2. Before I put new oil in, considering putting straight 10W vs OEM 10W40. If my reading is any good, it appears that the HD transmission fluid is straight 10W oil, which is basically a cold version of 10W-40 I'm looking for 1st hand opinions of...

    Transmission valve body question

Need help. 1991 M936A2 with standard Allison setup. Took valve body apart to clean it and loosen the stuck valve. During the teardown, 2 small balls fell out. Need to figure out where both go! Closest I came up with is SM1317EN (page 118) but that covers MT653 and lists 1 check ball...

    M1083A1 no CTIS Controller

After 6 months and 12 days of waiting, I finally got my M1083A1! Now that I know that it runs, it's time to get it all sorted out. The CTIS controller is missing from my truck and my question is -- can I run it that way while I'm waiting to hear back from the Arduino guy? What happens to...

    Tire changing tools

Had another blowout over the weekend. Hi-Lift came in handy, but using hand wrench sucked even though I had all new lug nuts on them. Purchasing $200+ 24V impact wrench is not out of the question, but it's somewhat large. Looking for other options. Seen this Nut Buddy recommended...

Run flat removal and installation setup -- anyone DIY something like this?

I've seen a bunch of ways to remove runflats, not many on reinstalling them. I just saw this video and though I'd ask if anyone DIY'ed something similar with cherry picker (engine hoist) or similar? https://youtu.be/NoWC-Qyd4kA

    Trailer harness miswired

Got my M998 few months ago. More recently I bough M1101 trailer from a buddy. Connected it to my rig and couldn't get lights on trailer to work right. Buddy swore that he tested my trailer on his M998 and it all worked fine. Took several weeks for him to get to my house (his rid was rented to...

How to extend trailer wire harness.

I made a bumper for my M998 and now the original wire harness is too short. What are my options, other than splicing a 3" pieces of wire, for extending the NATO style trailer wire harness? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

    M998 custom A/C setup

Have you guys ever seen or done something like this in the US? This guy is in Dubai so parts/service is local to him. Looks nice and something I would like to attempt in my 4 man soft top rig. https://youtu.be/1z7hStvjRyU

What's the correct type of bolt

Guys, what's correct type of bolt for the Rhino tire carrier. Is grade 5 enough or should I stick with grade 8? Also, on a seperate note, aluminum radio tray mount -- what kind of bolt can I use on the aluminum base and leg?

Is radio tray steel or aluminum?

I can't find a decent source for the radio tray. I'm not getting MIL radio anyway and was going to use the tray to keep CB, chargers, drink holders, tissues, and other crap on it anyway. I can fab one based on pictures I've seen. With that said, are the OEM ones aluminum or steel? What about...

What do you keep on M998 for self recovery?

So while I know that the first rule of offroading alone is NEVER OFFROAD ALONE!, there are always going to be times when you're alone. After dispensing with all the mumbo jumbo about notifying others about planned route, ETA, having provisions, blankets, first aid kit, etc., I'm looking for...
