Yep, I can relate to other projects getting in the way of generator happiness. However... your living in Louisiana would seem to place you on a "priority need" to having reliable home generator backup for potential extended pwr outages due to hurricanes etc. That is unless you already have...
Great progress on your "BOFR"... Body Off Frame Resurrection. Like the fact that you're documenting the wiring & your revisions to it via CAD.
What CAD s/w are you using? Just curious...
Yeah, you've invested quite a bit of effort so far to resurrect this veteran genset. Not only does it look better, but you have also modernized it with the DGC-2020 Controller installed in the newly fabricated Control Panel. (y)
Very nice job so far! Can't wait to see a video when you get it...
Looking at the picture in post #69 I don't think that there was much left for it to hold down. Perhaps you found it lying loose in the bottom of unit as you dismantled the lower skid frame area.
Coincidentally, today after reviewing the spec's on Amazon I ordered one of the same "NOCO battery...
I Googled "What eats wasps and mud daubers?"
And got this:'
"A wide variety of creatures eat wasps, from insects and invertebrates like dragonflies, praying mantis, spiders, centipedes to birds such as mockingbirds, sparrows, nighthawks and starlings, reptiles and amphibians like lizards and...
Yeah, not too bad a case of OCD. I noticed in recent photos that you "did not align the slots in the screw heads in panel hinge" in the mounting of the new panel. There is still hope for you! ;)
The suspense is growing! I'm waiting for the day this genset is fully dressed and belches smoke :burn: and generates AC! 🌩 :jumpin:
I do hope you video the maiden voyage!
Yep, this poor neglected orphaned genset certainly fell into the right hands.
It's gonna be a looker. Hmmm, perhaps it needs a metal flake 283 green clear coated paint job!
You're getting there and it's certainly a labor of love! Your gonna love it when finished. After its all fixed up and running like a top, you're probably going to occasionally feel like you need to go out and keep it company & wax it & pet it!
Looking good and your making great progress!
I find myself ending up "eventually" enjoying fighting with something that doesn't want to cooperate and winning the battle in the end. Gratifying to say the least when you get difficult/stubborn components apart and don't break/mangle anything in...
I've used Kroil and its good stuff. On frozen parts I've also resorted to heating/cooling (thermal cycling using heat gun & a coolant) to break bonds after soaking in Kroil and its usually successful over time.
Also on parts where there is an outer ring or sleeve, and inner solid part that is...
I've had good luck with "Rapco" paint using my HVLP sprayer & their rattle cans. In fact, I just ordered a few spray cans of the "383 Green" that is a CARC match. Here's a link to Rapco and here is a SS thread on using Rapco paint.
