New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

As far as I know. I haven't had the pump apart to see what button is in it and the adjustment screw is still blocked by the metal ball... The only engine mods I've done were the Jake brakes and the dual fuel upgrade.

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

I took my truck out for a Sunday drive and got to see how hot it runs. Running empty, steady cruise on flat roads was under 600°F and downhill/idle cooled to about 300°F. Going up moderate hills in 4th at 40mph got the needle up to 1000°F pretty quick and it stopped moving there. Seeing how...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

Today I drilled and tapped the stock manifold and installed the temp probe. The interrupted thread NPT tap (the black one) made easy work of the cast iron and it all went off without a hitch. The wiring is hooked up and I connected power to the gauge - now all that is left is taking it for a...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

It looks like I could make you a gauge pod for $48. The extra setup cost for loading the special roller dies into the press brake adds a little more than I was initially thinking.

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

It's a bit on the eccentric side, idea-wise but ultimately it will be mounted on the driver side with the ducts and hoses going through the rubber elbow / pipe that the intake air currently passes through. The actual air cleaner will be on the passenger side once the turbo is in place.

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

Not sure if you're asking Wes or I here, but for myself I'm not currently planning on adding an intercooler (but never say never). I do have the Cummins water-to-air aftercooler but I don't think it will fit under a stock M809 hood. Also, I already relocated my heater in preparation for a...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

Yes, I've read and followed all the turbo threads and that's why i'm installing the pyro gauge before the turbo so I don't melt the pistons. I'm not looking for big power but enough to make up for larger tires when I get that far.

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

OK, I'll make you a gauge pod and anyone else that wants one like this - not sure on price just yet but shouldn't be too bad. From pictures I've seen the 939 trucks (if you want one for your 936) have slightly different defroster ducts so i'll have to get some measurements from you off of your...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

Thank you! I'm going to install the thermocouple probe into the exhaust manifold soon to see just how hot my NA engine runs then I'll have to get a turbo to make the other needle move...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

Well thank you! I really like how it turned out!

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

Installation was a very tricky ordeal especially the coiled up air tubing. I have (2) smooth 18 GA. wires with female water proof ends, (1) 14 GA. Prestolite power wire which is kinda sticky and doesn't slide too well, (1) pyro wire harness, and the coiled air tubing to all go through the 7/8"...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

I needed a grommet that was at least Ø1/2" I.D. and ended up with a 5/8" I.D. x 7/8" O.D. grommet and getting a 7/8" hole into the dash was not easy. Even with the windshield forward my hole saw and my drill bits were too short to reach so after trying a half-mangled hole with a drill bit I...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

I tried on the gauge pod for size with the gauges mounted up and added some female wire ends for the gauge lights and gauge power. I used some Autometer 3214 red bulb covers to make the gauges illuminate red like the others. The SW pyro requires outside power which is a bummer but not a big...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

Before I had the pod welded up I enlarged the gauge holes with the dremel tool and sand paper rolls to get the oval shape needed for the gauges to angle over. I also took some material off of the legs of the gauge mounting brackets since they would be angled over along with the gauges. I used...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

Well, the corona virus freakout delayed the forming of the part from 1 week to 2 months so after a hefty wait the shear & brake guys got the flat pattern bent up using special roller dies. The gauge hole opening was so close to the bend on the front of the pod that even the roller dies could...

New pyrometer & boost gauge pod install

In preparation for a turbo install I added a pyrometer and a manifold pressure gauge to my truck in a gauge pod I designed to fit center dash between the defroster outlets. I wanted my gauges to be within easy viewing and I also wanted the add-on to look pretty stock. Below are the step by...
