I use a 3/8" x 4" Grade 5 or 8 bolt when needed. The bolt resides in the trailer mounted tool box.

Looks like you are kind of hard on equipment.....and I'm having a tough time understanding what part failed. I think these are Mendenhall brake actuators. What broke? The vertical 'plate' on the lunette ring?
