New To Me Engine, Won't Start

An engine that was started on a pallet and run is worth what it weighs in scrap value. it only takes a minute to burn gaskets with no coolant. It is basically a used motor with lots of ????? that would be sketchy at best. Good Luck.

New To Me Engine, Won't Start

Putting on another set of heads is all well and good. But before you do all this work take that set of heads and have them checked. Use a competent automotive machine shop. Just switching parts around and adding this and that will make an engine. But will it run? And will it last? Do as you...

New To Me Engine, Won't Start

Did you have the heads checked over? Leaking valve seats can cause issues with compression. Do it right the first time. Quote:" The definition of insanity is repeating the same actions over and over again and expecting different results. If the heads and valves and not sealing you can change the...

New To Me Engine, Won't Start

Never heard or seen it. Most cumbustion chamber cracks are invisible when cold and require much more than that to be found. I sure wouldn't trust that as a reliable test.

What is the dental pick scratching the chambers supposed to indicate? And the heads look fine but should still be looked at by a competent automotive machinist. I am asking because everything looks normal to me. Good Luck.

New To Me Engine, Won't Start

Quick question. How can it be a waste of time to pressure test the cooling system? This head gasket was on a 6.2 CUCV M1009 engine that I pressure tested and had a definite coolant leak into the combustion chambers. It ran like a steam Jenny out the right tailpipe. The heads were fine and just...

New To Me Engine, Won't Start

Before pulling the heads to check the head gaskets get a good reliable mechanic to pressure test the cooling system. If the head gaskets are blown and leaking it will NOT hold pressure. We had a 6.2 diesel for over 20 years that was a 1984 K30 cab chassis plow truck previously with the state of...

New To Me Engine, Won't Start

Injection pump. I don't think you said you had it rebuilt. I may have missed it I am multi tasking here. Did you ever check the glow plugs by pulling them out?

New To Me Engine, Won't Start

Glow plugs that are dead can get 12 volts. While you have the glow plugs out check them with a short wire and a battery. Only a split second if you ground the threads of the glow plug to the wire on negative and touch the spade on the positive. Put a drop of oil on each one. It will make smoke...

New To Me Engine, Won't Start

The engine will not start on starting fluid only. Pouring diesel down the intake will not start the engine either. The heat glow plugs and sprayed fuel will ignite the engine. I think you have air in the system. Start at the fuel filter and go forward from there. Open all the nuts on the...
