What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Agree with the spring replacements! If I do a frame off, I will have a full load of scrap just from all the rust that will fall off. Hey, but she runs like a top and the heater works great!

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Mine blows very hot heat. Single digit temps with snow don't allow me to turn down the defrost so I mix with floor heat and crack my window about an inch. That is with the heater fan on one notch below the highest. I have never had a square body Chevy with a bad heater and I have had quite a few...

Darn. I didn't add to cart but it looked like one available. I tried to find you one.

I love the way you cut out the fenders and rear quarters. That looks tough and not hacked.

Worked it hard yesterday. Maxed out trailer and truck putting 2700 lbs. on each. Braked good and handled turns descently. Still felt I had to ease off for turns and kept a very clear distance from vehicles in front of me. The M1008 did great with the only fail being a rim bolt pop on the HMMWV...

You can almost always tell if a center pin is sheared if the vehicle is "dogtracking". That is when the rear axle don't follow directly behind the front axle, causing the vehicle to "walk" crooked. Then one has to measure spacing of each axle between the tire and fender (or tire and bedside on...

Ok. Nevermind on the early shifts. I think it was hitting 2nd and just smoothly hit 3rd and I wasn't feeling it. When empty it hits 3rd hard. Forgot pic too.

Used the M1008 along with an M1102 to haul 3000 lbs of merch. 1000# per pallet. Took it easy on the trailer and only put one pallet in it, two in the truck. Funny how with all the weight it shifts into high at 25, yet empty and no trailer it winds it up to 35 before hitting high gear.

Just rotate the batteries now and then. I do so even with all parts stock.

Shoot, I run my $4k vehicles 5 years and just scrap them after 5 years! Beats putting out $80k!

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Loaded it up with just at it's weight capacity with 25 HMMWV airlift bumpers. I usually drag a trailer to load heavier loads but decided to just load the truck today. Springs still have arc left with the load. This truck sure runs good but nature is calling her, trying to turn her back to dirt...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Tried the string alignment this past week and realized "I can't do this" because I have HMMWV rims on the back but couldn't use them up front because of contact with calipers. Decided to attempt the tape measure like I did with the 5-ton and gave 1/4" tow in. Test drove and still pulled hard...

This all seems so odd. Shouldn't the springs (if made for a certain truck and weight) be made correctly from the start with no extra leafs needed?

More exciting than vehicle not starting when you're far from home and no tools or jumper/slave cables!

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Filter filled with fuel, replaced, replumbed, back on the road. When I first got this truck it never left the driveway without a large box of tools. This truck has been so reliable that I just quit carrying them after about a year. Now, two years later it has me putting the tools in again over a...
