Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

I could use some additional parts and I know someone else in need as well. If he wants to sell (and it's worth driving to CA and back) I'd certainly be interested.

I had to look up "differential valve" as I had only ever heard them called "proportioning valves." I guess you can learn something new every day. I do not believe there is one although I haven't put my hands on every inch of the line yet.

Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

Well it looks like I've got time to get back to working on the Champ since I'm not working on anything else. Before I go pulling the entire brake system apart does anyone have any suggestions on what might be the problem? Here are the specifics: 1) rebuilt master cylinder 2) rebuilt all wheel...

Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

Almost a year since anything has been done with the Champ. I had it backed out of the shop today to take pics for my new insurance carrier and realized I haven't done squat to the brakes all year. I think it's time to start pulling brake lines and roto-rootering them out to see if maybe that...

Still having a few issues with the mule kicking me in the chest so I'll have to pass. Hoping things are improved enough to make Mullins.

Well the Champ hasn't been running since the Veteran's Day Parade. I got home and the starter would not engage so wound up pushing it off the trailer and into the shop and there it sat. A couple of times I've been out to try and diagnose the problem and couldn't come up with anything. I...

I suppose. If you like that tan color. It'd look so much cooler in 3 color :)

Made the Austin Veteran's Day Parade on Sunday. The Champ got a little bit of recognition via a YouTube interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9Ls7wn8Xh0

Starting to “think” about the body repairs on the Champ. It’s a little difficult not having a “correct” example to compare things to so hopefully some of the limited number of owners can chime in here. The front end end has some obvious damage but not really obvious as to how things should...

Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

In order to make sure the Champ was ready for the Austin Veteran's Day Parade I went ahead and ordered a replacement 24v alternator. If Keith wants to monkey around with the old one then I can just have a spare for backup. The new alt showed up this morning and I got to work making it usable...

Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

Brakes "kinda" work. You pretty much have to stand up on the pedal and be going slow to start with but it will stop. Now the major issue is charging. Only getting 23.9v at both the alternator and the batteries so it doesn't take much running to run down the batts. A couple of thoughts I had...

Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

Getting a little frustrated with these brakes. We rebuilt the master cylinder, all the wheel cylinders, bled the lines and it still won't stop unless you're standing on top of the pedal and already just rolling. We did discover one set of wc cups that were not the listed 1 1/8". They were at...

Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

Well it's been a while but finally got most of summer stuff out of the way (awesome trip on the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route in July) so back at it on the Champ. Keith_J was out yesterday and we got wheel cylinders rebuilt on all 4 wheels and bled. Still a little emulsion in the lines so...

Thanks for the offer but I've seen the pics of what they have left and it ain't much. I'll keep my eyes out for a barn find somewhere and be better off.

Keith_J brazed the pieces back together. As this is going to be a trailer queen for the time being I think it should be fine until I can either find a direct replacement or something similar enough to work.

Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

Well I broke my brakes. Anyone have a suggestion for an off the shelf replacement? The place I got the rebuild kit from has them but core exchange is required and I don’t think he’d like my core.

Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

Thanks! The goal, if the parts make it in, is to have it driveable by the end of next week. The Lone Star MVPA participants in an Open House at the TX National Guard Hdqts every April and I’d like to take it for that as it’d be a little bit unusual. Also I could put it on my trailer to take up...

Still waiting for the goodie box from England but I went ahead and pulled the master cylinder. I’m not going to actually crack it open until I get the rebuild kit but it’s off and being cleaned up. I think they could have found a better place for the MC but at least they put a skid plate under...
