I can assure you that without the "story/history" behind Proud American, Ray's "TAJ" would be standing in the winners circle.
I can also assure you that when I post Proud American's win on the two GunTruck sites I visit about 300 Vietnam GunTruckers will know how much they are still...
Thank you Sir and I want to just let all of you know that even though I control and maintain the Proud American GunTruck, she belongs to and represents all of the Veterans of the United States of America!
Thanks for the kind words ROBO and I know that you know Proud American was built out of love for THAT particular vehicle and the story/men that go along with her.
Now I wish I could just take a nap for about 4 hours and 40 minutes and it would all be over when I woke up!!
Robo, only ONE GunTruck was brought back to the United States intact as a GunTruck. That's the "EVE OF DESTRUCTION" and she is on display at the Army Transportation Museum.
Some of the trucks were converted back to cargo trucks and some turned over to the South Vietnamese. I doubt we will ever...
Here's a couple pics of the original Proud American. Remember, the crew didn't have time to do much in the way of details or adding her name to the gun box because she had to get into the action ASAP.
The cab canvass looks almost tan since it is faded OD and the truck is nearly black. The rope...
Yes and no. The GunTrucks carried extra tires/wheels for their own use and that of other trucks in the convoys. Of course the tires DID offer some protection.
Thanks Ray. Here's a short video somebody posted on one of the GunTruck Sites of when we were at the Gathering in Indiana:

Are you sure that's not a pic of the Pope's Holy Bathroom in Rome??:naner:
Oh...and you are welcome to cross the Georgia line anytime Bro...leaving may be another matter...:recovry4x4:
I gotta tell ya, the Joker's Wild and the "TAJ" are both top notch builds...I've been in both of them a few times and the WOW factor is there for sure!!:goodjob:
I don't know about that but I DO know Tony had her up to 62MPH in Carlile(?),PA...and that was verified by 2 civilian vehicles and GPS...didn't hold it long cause I was afraid we would grenade her.
I agree about all the vehicles listed...they are all outstanding...and whichever one wins...
