Both "cattlerepairman" and "David" are correct. You need a oil that is good enough to lubricate but allow some wear so the rings can "seat in" to the liners. Then drain and replace all filters and go with a good synthetic. I use either "Rotella 6" or "Dello" synthetic diesel engine oil in mine.

Well out here in the Pacific Northwest we use Hydro and Nuclear power. Hydro only costs to build and maintain the plant. The Grand Coulee dam is still pumping out watts every second of every day.

I told my son the other day; "I won't see it in my lifetime but you will see it. The time when all vehicles on the road will be electric powered . Then you can tell your grandchildren you remember a time when "fossil fuel" was the only way to power vehicles" .

Yes. Ultimately we all will have to go to the Cummins once the old Multifuels are gone. That or the IHC DT466 (the old non-electronic style ) .

Yes, there pretty much identical. There's just the early style and the later style pistons as far as I've seen.

I talked today with my machinist about this very issue. I brought in all my parts and asked him how much to make one or three for me. He's looking into it now. Also as an aside he thinks it would be no trouble to make a "transmission upgrade kit". Meaning the gearing would be the same but it...

Many of the large diesel engines run solid wrist pins. In fact that seems to be the norm for them. I've used old wrist pins as punches and press pins. Good solid metal.

The Multifuel engine original design had oil cooling passages in the piston just like the MAN diesels do today. I'm not sure if they still make them though. If you cannot find some then you need to weigh this new piston and compare it to your old pistons. It needs to be the same, give or take a...

Sounds good. Did you take a straight edge to the heads ? I've found several that needed machining due to warping. I believe the cause was loose head studs and the high compression of the Multifuel. I plan on installing "ARP" studs when I rebuild my engine.

Actually for more then piece of mind. My good buddy who is also a Master Mechanic had the machine shop turn a crank and supply a set of rod and crank bearings with it. He didn't check the clearances and after installing and running the engine sent it out. It came back blowing smoke and sounding...

OK, Nemesis has a valid point here. The proper way to check the bearings is with "plasti-gauge" . You install a thin strip on the bearing, (which is still installed in the rod) then reinstall it on the crank. Then after torqueing the rod to spec you remove it (being sure not to move it !) and...

That is a good trick David.
