I am collecting the pieces and book marking the sites for pieces for just such project.
I have some parts trucks, axles, A3 wheels.
I want to run a divorced 205 into the rockwells into A3 wheels and tires.
I will run a 6bt, or a bigblock or a 6.2 with a short shaft Turbo 400.
That's just the tentative plan.
I also want to do the cross steering. I have a 2 wheel drive steering box as well.

You usually need to run a 44"+ tire to get any ground clearance and to take up for the 6.72 gearing. They're stout, but aftermarket parts get pricey for them real quick.

There's a M1009 with 2.5t rockwells that frequents the mud bog out here. It's only on 40" tires and a short lift. Fun for the mud bog, totally useless for the street.

Just for someting different? What are your motives/reasoning for wanting rockwells on a 1028? M1028's aleady have the sought after and proven D60 w/limited slip and 14bolt w/ locker combo.

If you plan on doing a bunch of modifications to make a serious offroader, rockwells are perfect. But if you want a truck that you can go camping, take to the mall, hook up to your boat, and do some moderate offroading. A 4 inch lift and some 35-37" tires will do just fine.
