Our new Chevrolet G506 1.5 ton truck

Howdy all,

Along with the still unidentified airfield trailer wagon mentioned in that forum, we just won in the same auction a Chevrolet G506 1.5 ton truck, made in December, 1944.

It's a Model G7107 Book Symbol NJ - Cab

We have yet to tow it the 8 miles home, but may be able to do so in the next few weeks. Here are a few photos to peruse:

What are your plans for this truck? It looks like it may need a little work. It could be a nice runner though with a little TLC.

We'll probably keep the "water" tank, no matter what else we decide.

Our choices for the truck itself are:

1) Keep it and get it running. It was last used as a herbicide spray rig. As far as we know, it may have been parked 20 years ago due to getting old and nasty, rather than engine failure, so getting it running may be reasonably easy. But we really don't have much of a need for it, so this is not likely, at least for long.

2) Part it out. Depending on condition on further inspection, it may be more practical to send bits and pieces out to help other ailing 506s. This one is not all at special, in condition, rarity or OEM equipment sense, so it shouldn't be a major loss. We wouldn't do this, probably, if we can get it running.

3) Sell it as is. We have lots of mostly open land here, so long-term storage is no problem. How we would advertise, and what the asking price would be is unknown. I know that proximity to buyers is key, and we're way out there...

4) Get it running, then sell. Any running vehicle is worth more to a potential buyer, of course, though extensive testing will be unlikely. We can probably wrangle up a few newer tires, at least, and be sure all the gear boxes and axles are full of less than sludgy lube.

Just wondering what you decided to do with this old girl. Please let me know if you start breaking her for parts...
As of now, it sits on our 640-acre ranch in Big Valley, northern California, with the 1955 schoolbus, the Mulies, the eleven shipping containers, the dozen hotsprings and a view of Mount Shasta, awaiting its undetermined fate.
