    Default M114

I have to first give Papabear a huge shout out. He and baby bear spent their Saturday helping me recover this M114.

It's honestly just a hull with with road wheels and tracks. The gear box is there as well as the axle shafts. I also have all the missing road wheels. One track is still useable. The other is still together, but needs to be replaced. I will need to build a power pack setup for it and drop it in. I know I'll need a rear hatch. Front hatch. Engine bay covers. Hydraulic pump. Lots of linkages. Wiring. Head and tail lights. And lots of other nick nacks.

My plan for now is to get it cleaned out inside. Then start working on bodywork on the outside. What hatches I can't source, I'll have a friend cut on a waterjet. Lots of work ahead. And even when that's done, I've got to refurb my M871 and setup a dovetail/ramp setup for it...

Anyhow I started the day at dark 30. I needed some fuel...

After getting to Columbus and grabbing breakfast, we started to load up. Notice who was ready first?
    IMAG4061.jpg

Then we fueled up the rollback.
    IMAG4062.jpg

After a short drive we were there. I got to "ride" it up to the top of the hill. We pulled it with Troy's deuce. I've gotta say, I was grinning ear to ear.

    And a plug for CTR!

And yes, I'm not sure who's having more fun. Me or the kids!

Well it's a T114 it appears. This one was manufactured by Cadillac. It does have a rebuild tag on it as well. It needs a lot of work honestly. Like many, there's a number of holes in the hull. Most of them have already been patched up a bit. But I plan on redoing it. There's also a dip in the hull at the driver's hatch that I'm going to have to figure out how to address. (I'm thinking warming it up and using a portapower to slowly work it back towards it's true shape) With that fact, I'm not sure I'll do a complete restoration on it. But I'm starting to lean more and more towards a resto-mod to it. (Clinto, I hear you already threatening to beat me with a cat 'o nine tails made from super rope...) Lots of people have done SBC's, BBC's, even some LS based engines. I however love diesels. I think a 4BT or a detroit diesel would go nicely in there. The upside to this too is that I can always swap it back to a SBC since it's nothing more than a "box". And the other non-armored munitions carriers were in fact detroit diesel powered.

I do however plan on getting it more presentable and all the hatches in working order by the 2015 Georgia Rally. I suspect I will not have it powered, but at least it would be a nice static display. (This hinges on me also adapting my M871)

George Baker's first one was depressed at the top as well. He used heat and some sort of jack, cribbing and lots of torch fuel to bring it up close. My experiece with heating aluminum was best in a low light condition. With that said, I wanna puke. At least you picked a company with some experience moving tracklayers. Think I need a rollback now too.

Just woke up this morning and this is the first thing I see. I about spit out breakfast. Not fair. I wanted one. Now I slip further into depression. Oh well, time for another beer, I think I'll have a shot with that also.

    Nice find though.

I couldn't agree more. What makes it worse is I had a chance to buy George Bakers other 114. Just didn't have the ability back then. Good luck with it. Know any of its history?
