I've searched and read all I could fine but I've found nothing that has the 383 brown, green, and black color formulas for any type of paint at lowes. I have 3 stores with in 20 minutes from me and the nearest Hd is about an hr away. Anybody have a link or anything?

Blatantly stolen from another thread on here: (aka search is your friend, but here's your answer)

Tell the clerk the list of the FS codes in the HD paint computer is found by going under "Competitor Color look up" and selecting Federal Standard as the manufacturer then have them enter just the five number code.

you should be able to. Read over the "Behr Paint" and "show us your paint jobs" or similar threads. I don't have them saved so I can't link them right this second.

Yea I read those that's what I got my info from but it's all behr numbers and didn't know if lowes could cross that over or if someone already had the number handy.

FSS is Federal Supply Standard, anyone who wants to sell paint to the Federal Government must be able to mix to that standard. When the paint mixing machine changes from one supplier to another, guess what? Yep, the FSS codes are in the new machines, and they are the same!!! The specifics of what tints are put in the paint changes from one 'base' to another, and from one manufacturer to another but the FSS codes stay the same. Camo 383 Green will always be 34094, period! Just as an aside, remember the first digit of the FSS code is the finish: 1=gloss, 2=semi-gloss, 3=flat; the second digit is the base color, 4=green, the last three is the exact shade of that color.

Well as I expected lowes is no help and a bunch of lazy idiots. I ended up going to HD and getting them to look it up, took the guy a whole 2 min to find the colors. When I run out I'm going back to lowes and get the colors matched in something they carry due to them being so close to me.

Go ahead and ask for Behr Marquee in flat! Its the shiznit!! Better coverage and no need for primer...Had good luck painting a M-901 and a CH-53D in the stuff.

I had samples at HD made of all these and have used the green 383, brown 383 and black (gallons). I went to the local hardware and tried their paints match. You are much better off going the distance for Behr...it's much better quality.... and don't forget the Flotrol !!!

I got some black from lowes and it doesn't cover bad, I've thinned them down about 5% to spray in a HVLP. Coverage is very nice a big difference in using latex compared to a automotive type paint but I do love the no harsh smell.

Okay, now get the Behr (ultra premium exterior flat or Marquee) in a $3.00 sample sizes and compare them.

I just got back from HD and they said my 34031 aircraft green must not be covered in their system, because it turned out black as in midnight black. I also got 34094 and that looked right, at least looking in the can. Anyone used HD for this code 34031? They claim a mistake is not possible, it is computerized and every time they put in 34031 the result will be the same....black!

I looked up the federal standard color chart and 34031 looks black on my computer too. If there is some green in there I can't see it.

It's one of the darkest greens there are. Did you have him pull up the formula and see if there is a green component? I know the black is not flat black, it has a blue component and you can see it in a comparison, but it's very hard to see on it's own.

34094 is the most current "383 green". I like the Ultra Premium myself and you can get samples that are exact.

Try the sample size of that 34031 Aircraft Green as compared to the black and or flat black.
