I need help with 1942 Ford Script Jeep

I went to uncover the script and discoverd there is two layers of sheet metal. The seller told me the jeep had been streemed lined so im assuming that the extra layer is part of the streem lining process. Does any body know about this process, what did it consist of, how do i get it off. Thanks

If your plans involve a full on historical restoration, hammer that metal back and put a for sale sign on that one and find one that has not been streemed lined.

Just looking at the rear panel and the tube bumper, you can tell the Jeep looks good cosmetically, but once you peel off that outer layer, you are not going to like what is underneath. Rust, pitting, holes, dents ??? The body will require an immense effort to fix.

I believe I would have left the peel on. What's under there looks really bad.

If the rest of it looks as bad as what you can see, there won't be enough left to patch up.

If the rest of the tub is in pretty good shape you can get a reproduction rear panel with the Ford script logo and a new rear crossmember. Be prepared to do some serious spot weld cutting.

I have seen so many Jeeps that have basically been "skinned over" with just flat sheetmetal to cover up beat up / rusty tubs, but I've never heard someone try to spin it as "streamlining". Your seller should stop selling Jeeps and move to Washington, DC-he has perfected the art of coming up with good names for bad things.

The G503 is a pretty simple piece. It really only consists of about a dozen pieces. If it were me, I'd strip all that "streamlining" (rofl) and get the tub where you can see what is good and bad about it. Then you can decide what's fixable and what isn't. If there's nothing left of the tub to fix, there are repro tubs that are pretty reasonably priced. Jeeps are worth more with their factory tubs, but let's be honest here: Some tubs are just too far gone.

I think the best way to do Jeeps is to pull the tub off and get the frame where it's straight, level and square. Once you've done that and you know all your tub mounting points are where they need to be, you can literally break the tub down to it's individual pieces and reassemble it like a model car.
