LME maintenance tent erection

Finally got all the pad area prepared to erect my LME tent. When I had the scrapper in building a pond I had them haul a bunch of loads into the area to create a flat zone. Add 36 ton of #4 and agg base and you have a nice maintenance and parking area.

The tent is a 12 man operation for assembly so it will be interesting to see how one man and wrecker can assemble!

Pad area ready for action

Some of these projects would never happen without the fellowship of our friends on SS. The tent was purchased last summer and brought up to the GA Rally last year by Kenny. (BIG THANKS KENNY). Then our expert Skid Steer operation GIMPY (BIG THANKS GIMPY) helped to the relocation from Kennys' trailer to the M932. It has sat in the back of the truck for the last 9 months waiting until all the work got done to get the site ready. Me and 73M819 unloaded last Friday and the work could begin on Saturday.

I was a bit panic looking at the number of bags of equipment and the amount of stuff needed to assembly. Have no fear after reading the TM all the bags and pieces were accounted for.

Ah nice. I have my frame set up and got a set of canvas for it, but haven't gotten brave enough to try putting it on. One man can assemble the old style tent if he is pretty smart. Or in my case really lucky!

Ah yes Lady Luck!! I have a plan for the canvas, stay tuned. The tm has 12 guys carrying the rolled and assembled pieces and placing on top of the frame that is flattened on the ground. These same 12 then lift the frame to hoist it up, I don't have 12 soldier b so the m62 and m819 are in the plan.

Got 16 tons sand delivered today for another enhancement to the assembly. Going to raise the whole tent another 2 feet higher.

I got one erect once. I'd like to say I did it by myself once but didn't quite do that. CruzinZ28 and his buddy (non-member) and I set one up at Gilbert a few years ago. It was a PITA but kinda glad we did it cause we were about the only dry folks there. THEEEENNNN the time to tear down came and that wasn't fun at all.

The manual says to build the main section then extend the legs flat. You then take a small army to lift the whole thing up.

I am going to build the frame, lift frame then add covers

Since you are going to leave it up get ground/ earth anchors for the guy lines instead of stakes. It is well worth the extra cost which really isn't that much.

That sucker was heavy to load. Glad it's not going in my AO. Will be nice once up though!

MV good idea but we have another approach for 60 mile an hour winds. Stay tuned!!

The design criteria was not to loose the 15 feet on each side required to properly stake down the tent. We have it down to 2 feet now.

So I started to build frame assemblies and was trying to figure out how to put the sides together without dragging the frame all over the rocks.




Ultimately had to unhinge one side and lower like the tm said. Then rigged up a harness that was hooked up to wrecker boom from rope but that did not work. Plan b was a ridged something

Is that the central air duct??

So the plan was to lift one side and insert another side!!




Then I would lift up the collapsed side

Okay made more headway yesterday. 73m819 made a Lego run yesterday to get some adult Legos.

So with a pile of sand and adult Legos what are we up to?





More details of where the frame is at the moment. There is still the leg extensions and another 8 foot section to install on the frame

Those Legos should hold it down in bad weather.

Looking good. Leggo's are fun to play with.

I like the use of drain pipe to raise it all at once. Field expedience is always good.
