Doing this for a friend that magically appeared today.
M170 freshen up project. Nothing as major as the others but graceously gives me something to do.

Will post up some pre-pics - busy now sitting in the sun (like superman gets his strength from the Sun LOL).

Crikey! your lucky to have some sun to sit in...I went out to the workshop today, wind, rain, cold..Stared at the trucks..lost enthusiasm although there is loads to do..especially as the first event of the year is on 27th of this month..Gets harder as the years go by..so..maybe tomorrow..

Sorry BabyBear broke your nice blue ball...in about 3 minutes...it usually takes him longer. Also...are you missing a golf ball? Some how there was at least one in the dually when we got home.

Thanks to you and Zout-2 for the hospitality. Doc is excited about getting the M170 back to mission ready status.

Just remember...you promised no super duper Commander Warp time line on this one....or the next one.

Slow and easy are the watchwords on this mission.:rules::beer:

Well the golf ball I know about - he snuck it in when you were leaving. As far as the blue ball - as soon as you told him you were leaving it got ripped into even smaller shreds at the garage - boy was BB pissed of he had to leave.
Man o man - even I would not have done that to him :papabear:

I remember my promise IFS.
Here are a few pics of the M170 that is really in nice shape compared to other projects I bestowed upon myself. No rush so this is going to seem to be going slow motion for me.

Would it be possible when you are working on that to get detail pic of the M170 parts? Like the litter mounts , spare tire mount , the handle on the dash? My poor old jeep is missing all that stuff and if I hope to ever put it back together I'll need to make all the stuff. And the seats too. Any help would be great , I could even send you some of your favorite beverages. ;-) Thanks

It is great to see the start of another of the maestro's resurrections of old steel soldiers. Cannot wait to see the transformation.
(zout really gets his strength, like superman, from old O.D. iron when he touches it)

Jasonic - Ice tea is about all the beverage besides water I am allowed - although I did sip my second beer since getting out of the hospital turkey day. Whatever measurements of stuff you need PM me and I will give my email address so that way my normal gibberish on here will be limited. Like I mentioned - there will not be anything high speed on this refresh job for my friend - but it keeps me from being bored senseless.

Warm weather sure is a blessing to be sitting in after the so called winter down here - cannot wait till the low country boil now the end of April here.

Got the jeepers creepers in the air on stands - tore down the brakes - only had one set of shoes on it - all cylinders were there - lines are for crap along with the rubbers and master cylinder.
Lots of stuff MIA off the engine as well.

But here is where she sits after picking on it this morning - sitting on a 5 gallon bucket - nothing rushed on this at all as it all came apart pretty easy. If it didn't the gas wrench was close by.

I have one last final smoothing filler coat to do yet and then final block sand again. One of my paddles had some defects in it so you can see in almost the final sanded surface some lines - OOPS. Could have just left these pictures out and you would have never known the difference - but I do not do that cause CHIT HAPPENS - and there is the proof.

Waiting on ordering any parts as I hate to spend money - but its enevitable.
IF anyone has the full throttle pedal to carb linkages - PM me please (I hate to pay for new). Its not my jeep but I sure would like to save the owner some money.20160308_091321_001.jpg20160308_102743.jpg20160308_102754_001.jpg20160308_123706_001.jpg20160308_130003.jpg20160310_112934_001.jpg20160310_112946_002.jpg20160310_112954_003.jpg

Don't make it too smooth, you know Doc likes his stuff to look "used"!:driver:

He once bought a new bumper for his GPW, painted it and installed it...Then it looked too "perfect"....So...he whacked it with a sledge hammer...NO CHIT!!:tank:

TWM there are a total of 4 I use at various times due to their hardness.type of repair to fill plus location of the damage .

Project on hold till I get into the new DZ. Reassembled the wheels to it can get transported down to Columbus. Will continue this once all the crap I have gets situated and set back up.
At least all the area surrounding the new garage is on flat level ground.
The garage roof was made by the Sgt. Major himself who used old wood from a WW2 barricks.....now how cool is that.

Zout, did you ever feel that with all of the work you do on MV's, that you would want a 2 or 4 post lift? I feel I want a 4 post lift, but for cryin' out loud, I only mess with these old vehicles a tenth of the times that you do...

OK - settling in finally and got all but the master cylinder installed on the M170.
Gotta find the owner a new drivers seat as his came up MIA in all the move - better off winning the lottery I think than finding a seat frame.

Got more parts ordered as there are a lot of them missing from even when the owner had it so its fixing one assembly at a time then back onto body work- Lots off stuff missing out of the engine compartment as well.
John up at Midwest Military once again has been supplying parts as we get back into this jeep.
Will post up pics when I can - but everyone has seen brake lines before so no big deal.
