M105 axle spindle size

You mean the spindle nut socket size?
So to bump this thread, the M105A2 TM (TM 9-2330-213-14&P), page 4-81 (PDF document page number 137) section 4-49 "HUB, WHEEL, BEARING, AND BRAKEDRUM MAINTENANCE", lists:
  • Socket, wheel bearing, 3-3/8" (the next figure appears that it'll need to be an 8-sided socket) (I find it surprising that it's not the same as the deuce 3" bearing nut socket)

I've never taken apart my M105 hubs to repack the bearings, inspect/adjust the brakes, and replace seals and that's something I want to do this summer. So I was hoping to find the following answers:

  • Part number/source for hub flange gasket? (item #4 in the exploded diagram)
  • Part number/source for inner bearing seal? (item #20 in the exploded diagram)
  • What about rebuilding/replacing the master cylinder on the trailer?

I've done all of this on my deuce, but never found info on the M105!

Found this about some master cylinder rebuild parts, but I've only rebuilt a deuce airpack (not a master cylinder, so step-by-step instructions are nice for someone like me... or just whole replacement parts)

After searching and searching online, I found Oshkosh claims to have the inner seal that fits (Item #20 from the previous exploded diagram).

NOTE:
I want to comment that the exploded diagram in this post is from Oskhosh's website. It shows wheel bearing nuts as only 6-sided versus the diagram I pulled earlier from the TM posted here on SteelSoldiers which showed an 8-sided wheel bearing nut. Update: gringeltaube answered this below, it is 8-sided.

(NSN 3110-00-198-1757 refers to one complete cone/cup bearing set)

Not so surprising really, if you think that the outer end of the Deuce spindle is Ø61.91mm, vs. Ø66.68mm for the trailer spindle.

I do find it interesting that the NSN for the cup & cone sets you used here was the same NSN as used on Erik's Military Surplus (3110-00-198-1757) , but is different than the NSN Oshkosh lists (3110-01-298-9358). However, both use the same Military Part Number (MS19081-230).

I sure hope you didn't just pull that cap for me to answer that. I was going to open mine (since I need to anyway), but I do appreciate it most definitely though.

Now if we can dig up sources for that tabbed bearing nut lock washer and hub flange gaskets ;)

Hub flange gasket - use RTV, it's only held on by three screws. No load bearing capabilities, no oil in pumpkin to contend with, so no cork needed.

Here's something interesting, I looked up the NSN of this seal on PartTarget.com and it lists the following:
  • Accommodated Shaft Maximum Rated Speed: 3600 feet per minute

That's a maximum speed of 3600/5280 = 0.6818 miles per minute, or about 0.6818 * 60 = 41 miles per hour (or ~65.84 kph). So..... don't tow the trailer above convoy speed? That seems a little low.

That's much better math! So what you're saying is, the seal is fine until you push the trailer out from orbit?

BTW, a Multifuel crankshaft @ 2800 rpm has a similar linear (tangential) speed, where the seal goes!
