M923A2 started to change 3rd axel input / pinion seal, but can't get housing off!

I now took the rear out put / pinion 21/4" nut off and got the shaft out the front, but the input housing is still stuck to the bearings. I could not even press the shaft through. The input / pinion seal has to come out from the inside of the housing. Is there something that I have missed?? help I can't sleep! Respectfully Bill Klug

Ol there is a tin cover over the casting that holds the seal.
