had same problem... gave up and friend used his hole punch tool to make a new hole for me. (he works with sheet metal fabrication and had the right tool)

I almost broke out my dremel tool but was too stubborn to let some hole beat me....lol I figured if I could pull the old plugs through then surely I could push the new ones in. I could and did but took me a heck of a lot longer then I wanted to take.

Your more stubborn than I. Was fighting with it over a two day period for total of about 7 hours...... just trying to get the plug thru one of the holes... when I gave up and asked for help.
