This is the procedure that needs to be followed exactly as stated - http://www.hummerknowledgebase.com/susp/ppsp.html

MODEL: HMMWV
SUBJECT: Power Steering Bleed Procedures
DEFICIENCY: The current bleed procedures in TM9-2320-280-20-2, dated Jan 96, Para 8-29, may not expel all air out of the steering system.
COMMENTS: We are aligning our bleeding procedures with those recommended by Saginaw Steering Systems, the steering system vendor. PROCEDURES:

Etc...as above.
I have a M1045A2 with the remote reservoir and pump 12469485, PN 1200359 per the Parts TM. The pump whines pretty loudly, although it has improved after following the bleeding procedure a couple of times. It is not too noticeable in normal driving, but it chatters badly and feels weak when turning the wheels with the vehicle sitting still, and does not want to turn lock-to-lock, maybe halfway each direction and then the pump chatters.

Is the bleeding procedure for the pump with remote reservoir the same as posted above by Sintorian?

TM 9-2320-280-20-2 does not show the pump with remote reservoir in any of the illustrations. TM 9-2320-335-13&P, for M1151A1 et al, shows the remote-reservoir pump but it is for Field Maintenance and does not include a bleeding procedure. Is there a TM that covers the remote-reservoir pump in more detail?

Thanks!

1. The procedure is the same
2. Remote PS reservoir equipped trucks from the facorty whine, some better, some worse then others. I own 7 of them, they all whine, have only had one or 2 trucks that were relatively quiet.
3. Static steering stop test fails w/new style pump, you have to be rolling forward to perform that PMCS item.
