Definitely will share once it comes in on how it fits & what I did.

I have 2 ways of hooking it up in mind... spring locked ball valve or a 24v solenoid. Ball valve would just be manually opened when needed. The 24v solenoid could easily be wired in series with the auxiliary fuel pump. When the pump kicks in, the solenoid opens.

The fuel fittings use a 5/16 37deg JIC fitting. Was going to get a hose made with a 90 deg fitting to attach to the auxiliary port of the generator & then run it to the valve from the fuel feed of the tank. Secure it along the way with the panel bolts that cover the fuel tank area.

Also will be putting a hand pump for using the tank to fill the ATV, Tractor, & if needed my truck... or anything else that takes diesel for that matter.

Looking forward to it. Tank should be shipped soon.

That was my hope.... when people catch wind of the needed modifications, they can just search & the video will pop up on YouTube & make it simple.

Got shipping confirmation for the fuel tank. Should be here Thursday.

Tank came in Thursday as expected. Didn't get to even open it until today. House was hit with lightening this week & have been dealing with repairs.

Did mount the tank today! Tabs lined right up as I measured. Had to trim one a bit to get the right angle ball valve on. No big deal. Nice & solid. Even empty, no crazy vibration sounds with the generator running.



Chickens were interested.


I plan to get a 3ft hose that has 90deg elbow 5/16 37deg JIC fitting at one end to connect to the generator auxiliary connection & another straight 5/16 37deg JIC fitting that will connect to a nipple I already have to attach the the ball valve. Easy way to keep the generator running for a long time. Also can be quickly removed from the generator & the longer fuel lines be run to my truck if need be.

Also going to put a pump on the other bung of the tank so I can fill my diesel tractor & ATV easily with it.

Once I get that stuff done, I will post another update.

Did a little more work today.

Fuel pump, filter, & hose fittings installed. Had to modify the suction piping on the pump since it was to long. Removed the telescoping part, trimmed it to 3/4in above the tank bottom, & cut 2 V's into it. Tried the paint on the tank to see how well it will coat.

Added the JIC fitting that I had to the drain valve.

Went to O'Riley's & had a hydraulic hose made with what I though were the right fittings... only one was. Apparently the JIC fitting I had was a 1/4 (-4AN) JIC fitting & I made both ends that size. The fitting on the generator is a 5/16 (-5AN) JIC fitting. Dang! I did know that ahead of time but mistakenly thought my fitting I had to put on the tank was 5/16 JIC. Should have confirmed with my existing hoses.

I did happen to find an adapter on eBay. It's a 5/16 JIC female to 1/4 JIC male adapter. Going to order it & it should be good to go.

Filled the tank with ~ 47 gallons of fuel & it's good to go. No leaks. Pumped a bunch of fuel through the pump to test all that work. No leaks.

On another note... mostly fixed the leaky fuel fill on the generator itself... I had no idea that there was an open & close setting for the vent. Had been in open. I filled it up to full when I got fuel for the 50 gallon tank & did some quick stops on the way home. Very little leakage. Possible that it wasn't even leaking & there was just a bit on the brim from the fill up.

Did some more work today since parts came in. Added pictures of the fuel pump setup to my previous post about it.

Adapter came in & I got the hose hooked up. Works out great!


Put a street 90 & hose adapter on the oil drain. Will put a cap on it. Have an old hose that I made to go with it that I can put right into a bottle for quick draining.


Added a small cable guide so I can use a small bungee cord to keep the exhaust cover from popping up while driving like it has on me. Also, I can use it to hold it open so it doesn't rattle when running.



I have some more work I want to do tomorrow... mount the outlets differently.

I like the elbow on the side for the purpose of draining oil. Otherwise, it can be a large mess (in my limited experience). I'd looked at doing an elbow to a hose barb so that I could easily add and remove a short length of tubing to get it to a 5g bucket under the M116A3. I hadn't because I was concerned it might stick out a bit, but, seeing this, I'm going to give it a go.

Some units come with a right angle elbow, Ive had a few over the years in trailer sets especially. The thread is an NPT, so any black iron fitting you like should fit.

The elbow is supposed to come ONLY with PU or PP mounted sets.

Which makes sense, but I've had machines that were less trailer (that had trailer accessories) and machines on trailers (that were added secondarily)... grab bag when it comes to surplus.

Having said that, I love it! But, if I utter that aloud, 500 people will lynch me. Anything over 25 Grad, (77F.) is when the wailing and gnashing of teeth can be heard for light years. Today, supposedly it was 40 Grad, (104F.). I was out cutting trees and clearing brush. Having been born where its hot, I was prepared. Sun blocker. Wide brim hat. White shirt. Light pants. Drinking water like it was gold plated. Start work at 07:00. Stop work at noon. Start again at 19:00, if need be. What was my German helper looking like? No sun blocker. No hat. Black shirt. Black pants. Drinking beer. Worked the whole day. Started at 10:00 was ready to pass out at 16:00. I have told him over and over. But he knows everything better.

Some things never change with the German mentality.

I put a hose barb on first but liked the idea of the hose better. Had an older washer machine hose from work. Cut on end so it can be run below the trailer & train into a bucket or whatever. Remove it quickly when done. As a backup, you can put the hose fitting cap on as well so it by some freak chance the ball valve inside leaks or opens, your oil isn't on the deck. Can all be gotten for less than $15 at Home Depot. I'm sure there are other, more clean looking options but this was simple for me!

FYI, on an 802/803 you need 1/2" NPT. On the 002 and 003 you need 3/4" npt to screw into the machine.

MEP-8xx oil draining

Was out in the garage late last night after work doing some more things.

Made a bracket with some extra space in case I decide to add another outlet box. Moved the outlets from the side of the generator to this bracket. Easier access. Also keeps the generator clean as I plan to have my wife make a tarp that will be to size to cover it when it's parked.



Removed the super cheap lock from the tongue tool box & replaced it with the same as on the rear storage box. Got more locks that are keyed the same coming.



Except for some minor stuff & painting everything, the setup is pretty much complete. Considering kloppk's WiFi controller.

I'm going to get a few cases of the Sand color to paint everything. Then put multiple coats on. Came out okay on the old trailer. Will give it a good power wash the day before I decide to paint it.

Really like that bracket, that's sharp!
