Here is my version of a DIY blinker module to replace the existing electronic unit:
This is basically very similar to what others have done, just another option with a parts list and links:

Advantages:

  • Cheap blinker module and easy to replace
  • Metal enclosure.
  • Fits existing mounting holes
  • Waterproof (if gasket is used and screw holes sealed)
  • Uses simple relay blinker module
  • Simple wiring.

  1. Parts
    1. Enclosure: Digikey part # 377-2366-ND

    2. Gasket for connector: Digikey part # AIMS52000-5-ND

    3. Connector: NOTE: I extracted the connector from the existing module. I am not sure if this part is an exact match. Digikey part # IMS3102E16-10P-ND

    4. Blinker Module: CEC Industries EF23 Electronic Turn Signal Flasher Relay, 3 Prongs, 24 Volts
      Link: https://www.amazon.com/CEC-Industries-Electronic-Signal-Flasher/dp/B00K85HGCC
  2. Build notes:
    1. Remove existing connector from existing module.
    2. Box:
      1. Drill connector hole using a step drill bit.
      2. Solder wires to connector
      3. Add crimp connectors to other end of wires.
      4. Connect crimp connectors to relay module
      5. I used a small section of tubular pipe insulation around the relay module to keep it from bouncing around in the box.
      6. Gasket on box and connector alone will not waterproof box. Holes drilled to mount connector also need to be sealed to achieve full waterproofing. Could use silicone glue or similar.
      7. Mounting holes on box may need to be enlarged to fit existing chassis mounting bolts
See hand drawn diagram for connector wiring in first image.

I like shock resistance for the relay and the schematic on the lid.
