Are all TH400 transmissions geared the same way? I'm curious.

After all these years I never thought to look up or ask. I never thought about the ratios inside TH400 trannies despite swapping dozens.

Are all TH400 transmissions geared the same way? Do some have taller gears than others?

Can a TH400 from a Chevy 454 or Chevy 400 big block with the appropriate torque converter work properly on one of our HMMWV's or are the gear ratios different?

I'm just curious. I'm not planning a swap at this time.

What got me thinking is some gues like Juan Prado have HMMWV's that have 6.2's and TH400's that do 70 MPH, while I have a 6.2 that likes 50 MPH. Sure I understand about taller pumpkin gears, but I also wonder about the internal gear ratios.

Best,

T

You know, in retrospect it was a silly question... I knew and then did not recall that all three speed GM end at 1:1.

Guess it is time for Aricept. (dementia medication)

Sorry
