I've been working on my Deuce for a couple of years now. I was in the final stages of putting the motor back together after a head gasket replacement along with a few other items. It was going smoother than expected until the barn it was in decided to try to burn down around it. It looks pretty rough but I believe with some more time and money, she will run again!

It was an electrical fire in a spare room off the side of the barn. I was asleep when it happened, somebody driving by noticed it and called it in and the local VFD put it out.

A few of us don't feel so lonely anymore. Get the fans, heaters or dehumidifiers on it. Insurance tried to clean 4 of my vehicles from my shop fire. After a few months the wipers, signal lights....things with yellow metal in them gave out, slowly. Everything had to be scrapped. They washed drills, electric impact, a bunch of tools. Not much of it works anymore. Our neighbour had a chemical fire, acids, canola oil, dyes for floor cleaners and other real nasty stuff so I sure hope you don't have the same issues.

Some of that smoke carries acids with it so any exposed metal should be washed soon. Now we're finding out that neutralizing by hand washing with baking soda is a good thing.

3rd post on the Steel and you're showing up with the hottest truck on the site, welcome aboard and get back at it. If there's someway you need help, just knock.

That it didn't melt the tape on the manifold openings is encouraging. I second the recommendations to wash everything and neutralize the contaminants somehow. Smoke carries some weird stuff in it when metals burn, and it eats copper and tin and other reactive metals over time (within months).
Still, it looks like she can be saved without a terrible amount of work (i.e. frame on, no need to tear down to components for restoration).

Sorry for your loss,
Bulldogger

Aw man, that really sucks! Looks like it could have been so much worse though. Most importantly, YOU are okay.

Please keep us posted on how this goes.
