Alternator GEN light flicker

My GEN 1 light has finally started acting funny. I have the cluster apart so I can really get up close and look at the bulb. Usually it's very VERY dimly lit constantly (gen 1) when the vehicle is running (m1009). However lately I noticed the light has gotten brighter and brighter over the last couple weeks. Now it's actually considerably bright (about 15-20% brightness compared to before cranking). However it flickers a bit, and goes almost completely away when actually driving or revving the engine. Idle speed is normal. Am I simply due for a rebuild?
