What color are the exhaust pipes?

So I have new parts that are either black, bare metal, or painted like aluminum. What color were they originally?

The NOS parts I believe were painted for storage protection?

With such a beautiful rebuild your doing I would find some high heat
Enamel in a darker silver, or Gray, flat black, or whatever you like, and squirt it.

That's interesting.

We all know exhaust parts are aluminized, but for the most part
Didn't occur until the sixties, probably late sixties, then pretty much
became the standard.

I can see were later replacement parts were treated, but I doubt the
Early original trucks were.
When the first M37 came out the country was still recovering from
Aluminum and steel shortage from the war.

I never seen a early M series or WC with shiny exhaust.

Could be all wrong here ,but that's my opinion.

Also the early coatings were very thin and didn't last long.
Thanks for the link,
Tom

Actually, there wasn't an aluminum shortage. The scrap drives were so successful we had stockpiles of the stuff. Now, getting it out of government horde and back into production is another matter entirely.

NSN's didn't come out until 74 or so. I am betting early ones are bare metal.
