Mystery Button on FMTV Drivers Door

In case you were wondering what the button at the bottom of the driver door is for as well as the thin metal bracket, it is for the TM bag. The top of the bag clips onto the little bracket and the bottom of the bag snaps onto the button. You can either keep the TM in there or any of your registration papers. ha, no kidding. I started a thread a long while back wondering what that was for. Grease zerk to nowhere.

edit - I wonder how the TM could possibly fit in there! I have a printed copy and it's huge.

There is no mystery about that. (Unless you're a civilian)
And I believe it is to holds a folder, called the 'equipment record folder'

It includes important paperwork , like forms to fill out, in case of an accident (and there are plenty to fill out, if that happens). But what do I know, right?

I've never seen a "real" one like in your picture. It might fit in there. Ours were always in these large black binders, with the operator's manual inside (so you could follow the PMCS checklist), that will not fit in the bag at all.

If you read his message carefully, I think he was saying that their binders were different (and larger) than you have pictured, and would not have fit in the bag...

That would be nice to keep the registration and stuff in too, if they can be found on the civilian market (if you like to collect the original stuff... or maybe just similar if not). Is it just a folder (fairly thin)? 8.5x11" size?

It's 8x10" and made to fit in the folder holder. Not sure if they are available. But I would think so. You can find pretty much everything on the market.

Edit: You can find them on ebay. I am not going list links, because of them being live auctions.

The bag I saw had a wide metal clip on the back, that hooked over the metal "towel rack" on the door. There may be more than one type of bag too, as the one I saw was made of a rubberized fabric, similar to the cargo cover, not the canvas in these pictures.

The pouch slides onto that rail on the door.

Why the attitude man? It wasn't clear from his picture how it interfaced with the bracket, all I can see are two green things. All you had to say was "metal tabs go in the bracket".

The pouches BTW have been around since at least the Korean war. They were made of canvas originally. They also can be found on eBay.
