Just picked this ol girl up. Previous owner didn't know much about it, he got it from a dealer who got it on a trade in. Has an Ontario title which is nice, I've been told that they can be hard to get plated in ON.

Mechanically it seems pretty decent, the brake pedal is soft and the high beams are stuck on, and it needs a few bulbs, but none of that seems too hard to fix. Needs a set of tires too, it has some wrong size street tires on it right now and I want to go off roading in it.

Got some rust on the floor pans, I think long term the body might need to come off to fix it right.

The doors/top are "decent" but showing their age, I managed to clean them up substantially with some 3M vinyl conditioner and Meguiars PlastX for now. Might look into making new ones at some point.

For now I just want to get it on the road and enjoy it! Maybe take it camping in Michigan or something over the summer.

Good looking Iltis! I would love to get my hands on one. I started out working on the M38's and the 151's, then we received the Iltis. Pretty good vehicle when you know the limitations of what it can do. Very capable off roader and decent on the highways. Some owners have pulled the original 1.7 gasser and installed various other VW engines from first generation Jetta diesels to TDI's. Have fun with it!

A VW 1.9 diesel is almost certainly in it's future.

For now, I got a set of all terrain tires, got the brakes adjusted, and have fixed up some minor stuff. Have some major rust repairs to do in the future.

They were prone to rust in specific areas, notably the rear floor and the area for the batteries.
Yeah, the rust on mine is only in specific areas, limited to only the body, frame, and things attached to those items.

I took it off roading this weekend, it's amazing in the dirt but could use some more power. Climbs like a goat.
