Hello,
Has anyone else had problems with the timing covers breaking on the 3116/3126 engines on the Stewart Stevenson M1083 or similar 6x6 or 4x4 type units? i have heard the driveline imbalance maybe a source for the harmonics that lead to the air compressor coming loose and causing the eventual failure of the cover, I am leaning towards it was driven at to high of an rpm for too long of a period ( long periods of highyway driving) which will also cause vibration problems, I wasnt the driver just the guy that has to fix it again. All air compressor bolts and bracket that supports air compressor and pumps were tight, and loctited before the unit left,

In the FMTV forum. Oh and FOR SURE the driveshafts being out of phase (common) or failing the hinge test (any discernible up down movement at slip joint) will cause this, along with slinging the water pump and alternator too.
