This weekend I put my Humvee in a local car show. I had no intention of getting a trophy as it was a show-n-shine where clean wins. I have no time in my life or interest in cleaning the truck that well - in fact, I thought about taking it out mudding and bringing it to the show extra dirty.

My son and I had fun this week looking at 50 cal mounts on military units and building our own using fence pipe, PVC, 1x4s, sheet metal and a bunch of things I found in my spare parts bin. We finished it off with a bright orange cap on the tip and some flat black paint. I attached a 50 cal ammo can and filled it with the large nerf darts into the action side of the unit.

We put it on a tall tripod mount where it would swing over the roof of the truck.

I verified the show organizer was okay with it. We also put a goofy cartoon style bright colored nerf g u n in the M16 mount.

As predicted, we didn't win any trophies, but it was fun. Our scrap parts prop was good enough to fool several people. I had a Vietnam Vet come up and ask me what type of permits did we need to be able to keep and use that!

Now, we have to figure out what we are going to do with it. It is over 5' long. May hang it from my son's ceiling.

I'd post pics - but even though it is fake...I think there is a rule against it.

There is no rules against posting pics of you vehicle with the fake gun. I routinely take my M715 with a full metal M2 replica and propane simulator to all kinds of shows and parades and even come home sometimes with a trophy when they have a class for it. But it's funny because I call it being snubbed by the chrome and polish crowd when they turn up their noses at my trucks and the fact that I let people touch and get in my trucks. But I don't take my vehicles to shows for them, I take them for the countless veterans who always want to stop and have stories and for the children who love to get their pictures taken with the big green trucks.

My Diamond T in the picture actually now has Twin 50s, this was when they were mid stride in their determined quest....

Can you post a few more pics of the M62 gun mount. I like the idea.

When I had my M923 I would occasionally mount my ARs in the gun mounts on the doors and lock them in place with gun lock cables. These were no fakes and a lot of LEO like it that way.

Indeedi bm. All you need is 4 foot of scaffold pipe, and then re-enforce the cargo cover socket, make plate to hold your gun, and..there ya' go.
I will take pictures tomorrow foer you.
I have to say,(That), When we drive through the local towns and villages we do get some looks.
But that could be the NOISE! As that attracts the initial turn round and gape, then, the look of of ? when they observe the guns.
A BIG draw at local events and shows.
I wonder if I should fit one on the 530C?...errr, perhaps not, It already has a 'cannon'.

OIF1-5 there was a lot of improvisation arming and hillbilly armoring all sorts of HMMWVs for convoy escort duties, using issue M6 later M7 Weapons Mounts as well as Bn HHC Maintenance mfg mounts with and without chicken shields.

Sounds like "The Rat Patrol 2020" !
Oh oh, I may have given ABC an idea for a remake!
Naw, more like "current combat footage that nobody else was courageous enough to get"...or something along the lines of "Attempts to capture El Chapo's son results in combatants spilling over US border and here are exclusive shots & interviews of Border Patrol engaging mexican drug cartels/sicarios, battling each other for 30 minutes each week in the deserts of Arizona & New Mexico. Tune in each week for more exclusives!"

No, that can't be right. I hear on the news no bad guys cross the border. 😁
