    Default Goodyear vs Michelin Beadlocks...why the caution in the -14 Tire tm?

    From page 2-49 of 9-2610-200-14

    "Never install a Goodyear beadlock in a Michelin tire or a Michelin beadlock in aGoodyear tire. Damage to equipment may result if tire components of differentmanufacturers are interchanged."

    I'm only asking because I want to swap the Goodyear off of the rim it's on onto the rim it replaced (which still has the dead Michelin on it).

    Is interchanging beadlocks between goodyears and michelins really a problem? If so, why?

    Its not. There is only 1 beadlock insert for 939s. It is the old type of insert that is 1 piece. Part # 12301119. I have swapped alot in between tires.

    First time I ever hear about brand-specific beadlocks....

    As a general rule, it doesn't seem to make much sense. At least there are known exceptions:
    For example, this same beadlock (#12414420; NSN 2530-01-370-5462)......

    .... comes factory-installed on the FMTV wheels, equipped with either Goodyear MV/T or Michelin XZL tires. (tire size 395/85R20).

    They really should be more specific, as to which beadlock is not interchangeable between brands, in each case.

    Publication was dated back in 1990. I think it was more to prevent units to just flip and swap parts so they would order new stuff. Cause they are the same beadlock in the older trucks. Maybe it has something to do with the 5/8" stud wheels vs the 3/4" stud wheels. Who knows.

    The dead Michelin is on a 3/4 stud rim and the Goodyear I'm swapping to is on a 5/8 stud rim. So you might be onto something. Will know a little more when we have them both apart. I dropped everything off at a tractor dealership for them to break it all down.

    Shouldn't be any problem putting that Goodyear on the 3/4 stud rim. That's what all the rest of the tire/rim combos on my 923a2 are

    Speaking of differences... the 3/4 stud rim is a bit different on the inside vs the 5/8 stud rim.

    Instead of a shallow depression that the O-ring sits in like on the 5/8 stud rim, this 3/4 stud rim has a narrow lip that the O-ring sits on top of/against. When the top half of the rim is bolted down, it bulges the o-ring into the narrow gap of the lip. Will post some pictures later tonight.

    Yes. They use 2 different O rings. 3/4" stud uses a 1/4" and the 5/8" uses a 3/8" thick o rings. You can use the 3/8 on the 3/4" stud wheel but you can not use it the other way around.

    I've got a 5/16 o-ring that I bought brand new. Will probably use that, though it does look like it will take a bit more cranking down on the lug nuts to get the top half of the rim to snug down properly. Just laying a 5/16 o-ring on it and laying the top half of the rim on top, it does sit up a bit higher than on the (admittedly already squished into a triangle) old 1/4 o-ring.

    Can't imagine trying to use a 3/8 o-ring on it.

    The 3/4 lug style looks like it would be a little more robust, just because it seems like there's a better chance of getting the o-ring to seat evenly than on the 5/8 style. Can't really slip down, since it's resting on that lip.

    wire brushed, sanded off loose rust, blew off with air hose, and wiped down with acetone.
    2 coats of por15
    primed
    2 coats of industral enamel

    the spray paint was probably overkill, but I didn't put por-15 over everything. mostly just directly to the rusted areas.
