Alright folks, the long awaited (2 weeks) VIN info thread starts up again. Here's the rules of the road for the newbies.

1. When posting, give me as much of the following info as possible:
a. VIN also known as serial number (SN)
b. Registration Number (Reg#)
c. Vehicle NSN (VERY IMPORTANT FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN DEUCES)
d. Type of vehicle
e. Where you bought it
f. Month/Year you bought it
The more of this info you give me the more accurate I can be.

2. Any pm's sent to me for info will be cut and pasted to this thread to minimize the impact on my pm storage.
3. Don't ask for vehicles your are 'thinking about buying'. If you own it no problem.
4. Don't ask where I come up with this information...I'm CARNAC (besides, it drives me nuts when people ask---why do you need to know).

Yes. More than likely the 1978 is a typo. Garbage in, garbage out.

Not neccessarily, they may have issued it but the unit that got it may not have put it into their maintenance computer system. If they didn't, then there is no record of it.

What verification would need to be done with the deuce, double check the numbers i wrote?

Yes recheck the numbers and also check the frame. You may have a replacement dataplate that is incorrect.
Registration number didn't bring anything up in CARNAC's skull either LOL.
Frame number should be on the drivers side front wheel well vicinity. Especially want to look at the 825 part. We'll see what happens.

Unfortunately for me the truck is still at the GL lot. I did use the wrong terminology in my earlier post but I read the SN/VIN directly off the drivers side frame rail and unless I read it wrong it was 1040-10999. I did bite off on the easy target with the registration number that was printed on a sheet of paper taped to the window. The truck does not have any data plates in the cab but I do have a partial contract number off the tag in the engine compartment. It is DAAE07-86-C and the rest is obscured. The mileage shows 12147.6 and the hour meter shows 510.9.

The above truck is an Ex-USAF truck...... it wont be in the database.

The reason i'm asking about this truck, I keep finding Strata blue paint under the camo, so it has raised my curiosity! The underside of the cab tub is still blue!!!
The truck came from chambersburg, it also has written in two places on the side of the truck"Aberdeen trk 01-04" , Also there are two shipping labels that are quite faded but the destination was FT Meade, The camo is an odd color that i havent identified yet, will post a pic of the color. It is the truck on the left!
